I am (and have been for weeks and weeks), changing from my Hero (Sprint) to the LG Optimus S or something else. Can anyone give me a reason to, or not to switch over.

Frankly, I feel with all of the issues I have had and 4 phone "exchanges" because of defects, it's time. Please help with any information or what have you ;)

I would say to go to the store and play around with the optimus and see how you feel about it.
I recently went from Hero to Optimus, here's how i feel.
The bads about optimus-
no trackball-Which after a little while you won't even notice.

The good about Optimus-
Everything.lol
It runs smoother then the hero.
Lag-none
keyboard lag-none
Thing runs so much better then a Hero.

For me after running the Optimus for a couple hours I was completely in love again. It's a solid phone. If you do make the switch come-on over to LG Optimus area we have some great tweaks and a great rom for it if you didn't want to stay stock.:)

Trackball? Blah LOL I'm not all that worried about that frankly. Do you feel like the keyboard is in the same "area" as the Hero? The one thing I couldn't stand about just around every other Android phone with Sprint is the way that the keyboard felt. I hacve lil hands, I need a smaller phone (which is why I picked the Hero to begin with lol)

Keyboard lag (or rather lack of), THAT is a HUGE plus. I HATE the way that the Hero does that. Makes me nuts.

How about battery life? I have gone as far as purchasing extra batteries for the Hero, and a portable charger because of the funky battery life :( I would LOVE to hear that its better lol

Battery life is better then the hero.I can go all day without recharging.
I took phone off charger at 3-4 am lastnight and it's now 11pm.I still have 30% battery. My sister played angry birds for awhile today and ive used it like normal maybe even heavy use cause of the holiday and i know i could of made it past the 24hour mark without issue.
The keyboard is a little different but not much and it's very easy to type with(area the same). Also swype is part of the new update to the Optimus.I didn't use to like swype but here lately it has grown on me.

*Edit-wanted to add this if i ws at 30% on the hero and i was going to bed i would make sure to plug in cause i know it would die in the middle of the night and i use my phone as my alarm. With the optimus i wouldn't even think twice i'd go to bed with 30%.

I'm the same way with the alarm factor. In fact, because of different meds I take, it MUST be working all day and night-so ya, I'd do the same. Typically I plug mine in each night either way. Unfortunately I have nowhere else to plug it in during the day, so its a must.

Very glad to hear you say that you liked it that much though...especially since while browsing around here and there, I just found it on BestBuy (please electronic lords, do not shoot me for purchasing through their site-look lightly upon me and make sure the phone gets here in a timely and safe manner LOL) for FREE (with upgrade blah blah). I figured I may as well. Its free for goodness sake. If I don't like it, I can turn it into Sprint and do whatever else I want to do.

However, I am curious to see how it'll be without the ball. I am sure it will be odd-but not a big deal as you suggested earlier. Only one down side as I see it:

NOW I HAVE TO BUY ALL NEW EXTRA CHARGERS & CAR CHARGERS!!!!!! eeeeeekkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

Congrats, fingers crossed.
I had that issue before with always haveing to switch chargers and get new cords. Then finally I started to only buy plug-ins that have a usb port. That way all you have to do is pick up a few extra cords. You can find them cords for as little as 3bucks.
Here's a pic of the type of car charger i have minus the cord thats attached.lol.Then you can plug any usb into it to charge.

Olympus vs EVO?

I'm still with the Hero for another month (upgrade time 1/1/11) and was struck by the fact that Beezy chose an Optimus (A phone I haven't yet looked at, but will)

Question: why the Optimus not the EVO? EVO has bigger screen and will do 4G (I'm in NYC)

I'm grateful for the continuing quality advice I get here in the forums.

Cheers and happy holiday to all

The phone was givin to me.After playing around with it for awhile i would say honestly unless HTC steps up how they build phones ill stay with a LG.My girlfriend has a Evo and i play around with it all the time but the Optimus still seems smoother and better running to me.I still have a upgrade i think im able to use on 1/6 which i believe is when the new HTC is suppose to drop.I plan to check it out if it's along the same lines and runs like the rest of the HTC phones on sprint then ill stay with the Optimus until LG puts out another great phone.
Im not trying to bash HTC to peices just to me they have been building android phones the longest and it seems all of them have the same issues over and over again. The always have lag when they shouldn't.I have no lag on the optimus even the keyboard doesn't lag.
To me the screen size doesn't really matter.Don't get me wrong i love the big screen on the evo but whats a big screen if the phone doesn't perform.4g won't be in my area for who knows how long so that's another reason.I live a football feild away from a tower so 3g is super fast for me and the battery drainage you get from 4g just doesn't seem worth it to me.
With the optimus battery life is just amazing. With my normal usage im down to 91% left after 14 hours.I could only dream of my hero or the girlfriends evo getting anything close to that.Screen shot attached says it all.lol

GREAT points on the EVO. My two other things on the EVO were a) its flippin HUGE. I have small hands (female), and Omg it gave me hand cramps while playing w/it in the store! And the b) I refuse to purchase a "new" phone - when its been out as long as the EVO has. Let's be real...this tech changes daily, sometimes even more frequently. Upgrade doesn't always mean bigger, sometimes size is a lateral thing. Upgrade means better and I don't think that we will be seeing the EVO getting much better. 4G you say? What is the point when most areas won't be seeing it within 100 miles in the next 2-5 years?

And please, while we are talking 4G, tell me why i should pay for it when they dont even have it in my STATE, nor will they....

Ok, actually, the reason I clicked back to this thread....beezy (you know my spell check spells Herzegovina when i type in beezy LOL) WHAT TO DO ABOUT NO LED ON THE OPTIMUS?!?!?!?!?!!! </rant>

I agree with Beezy that the Optimus is a really good phone. My brother-in-law got one a month back and he loves it. I've had a few chances to play with it as well and the thing is very responsive; moreso than than an overclocked Hero imo.
