@mustang7757, of course. Just open a picture on a computer and zoom in anywhere - that's all the phone is doing with digital zoom. It makes the pixels larger (or it throws pixels away, like MMS).

All digital zoom is doing is cropping, nothing else.

It has been noted by others that the S7 had better resolution when zooming. I wonder if Samsung is only building the software for small screens and not 50+" 4k TVs.

Yes - you can't "improve" digital zoom, it is what it is. Crop the picture and enlarge what's left. (Even film has a limit - I've tried enlarging something barely visible under a 10X loupe, and ... you don't want to know what that waste of printing paper looked like, but I've gotten better pictures when some developer and fixer spilled on printing paper.)

The only improvement can be optical zoom, but the total membership of Mobile Nations probably doesn't represent 1% of the number of owners of just all Android devices, so we're not about to see a 20X zoom lens in a phone (not that I'd mind one - and a tripod thread on the bottom) - probably not ever. If you want decent optics in anything more than about 3X, you'll have to go to a camera. (And not those $10 "zoom lenses" either.)

I cant say for the s7 , I used to have the s7 edge and cant compare as I no longer have it.

Actually Pixel 3s have an improved digital zoom. Not as good as optical obviously but the crops aren't as bad

I experience the same thing. I am not sure if its normal or i should get it replaced. I have this for less than a week.

I have had the same problem with my s10plus. I just don’t understand why I should have to tweak my setting like a professional to get a decent picture. I am using my iPhone XS Max, now and never have issues with my photos.

You don't have to tweak settings to get a decent picture. What most people don't understand about megapixels is that while having more does have a certain link to better image quality (to an extent), it mainly signifies that the more megapixels, the larger the picture.

That's why many flagship phones produce great photos and have superb cameras (e.g S10, iPhone XS and Pixel 3) while having seemingly low megapixel counts of 12MP.

And also, if you look at the camera settings of cameras with 48MP cameras you'll often find that the default and arguably 'best' setting is the 12MP one (4-1 pixel binning) where for 4 pixels are changed into 1 to produce better photos (especially in low light).

It is a solid camera but it has not earned the distinction of being the best out there. It can certainly go toe to toe with the iPhone, however iPhone is no longer the king.

Not in low-light situations. In good light it equals Apple's cameras, in low light it's possibly the worst performing phone camera I've had in years.

Seriously? The general consensus is that Samsung’s low light photos are better than Apple’s but not as good as Huawei’s or Google’s.

The S10 has better cameras than the iPhone XS in my opinion. Period.

That sounds about right. Google and Huawei beating Apple and Samsung. I wish Samsung would step it up a little in the night mode department.

They recently did (via software update). The improvement in their Night Mode is noticeable and you can now toggle it manually. Still not quite as good as Huawei’s and Google’s (hopefully that will change with the S11) but now even better than Apple in low light.

In my experience one of the weakest parts of the iPhone was always its low light photos (and battery life).

Not as good as Google's but definitely better than Huawei's. People believe that Huawei makes fantastic cameras that are better than everyone else's. That was true until perhaps 2 years ago. By now, Samsung has definitely caught up (especially with the Note 10+ / 5G), just check out the many reviews.

The wide angle lens brings in subject matter and get shots using S10+ that I wanted but never could on iPhone X.
