Poor quality conversion in Whatsapp

So my s5 seems to convert any videos in whatsapp from 1080p to 640 only problem is that those videos then looked like they were recorded with a 1997 Nokia. My friend as a s4 and he doesn't have this problem. Can this be changed?

This topic interests me also. I have come over from Apple and I was used to sending video messages, via texts, with my iPhones. With my S5 I cannot. I have been doing a lot of reading here about possible solutions…seems crazy to have a phone that takes such awesome videos and not be able to share them (I’m not interested in limiting the video size & therefore quality to be able to send it…it basically becomes unwatchable). I was told Whatsapp is a good way to solve this problem (except anyone receiving the video has to have the app installed) or putting the video on YouTube. I’m not thrilled about putting videos of my kids on YouTube (it’s mainly videos of my kids that I send to friends and family). I tried to share some videos as a test with my wife on You Tube set as private but she was not able to view them…I think she would have to have a Google + account.
Just seems like in 2014 it would be much easier to send small videos via mobile devices.

Definitely would NOT be putting the kids' videos up on YouTube.

Way too much bad stuff in the world to allow that to happen.

You can use Google Drive or Dropbox for example to share stuff like that.

As far as YouTube goes I think there is a way to do it privately...that way only the people you send the link to can view the video. I'm not all that tech savvy so it still worries me.

Google Drive & Dropbox I will have to research but the issue is my entire family has iPhones and my mother & grandmother aren't going to be able to download 3rd party apps and then play the videos. Thanks for the suggestions.

You might want to take a look at an app called AnyVideo, no limitations and it can be used with whatsapp or regular messenger ......I have been using it for the longest .....
