Port Forwarding

Hello Experts,
I am new to using an HTC 4G Sprint phone, as it is an extra phone that I am now trying to use as a home wifi hot spot (in replacement of my DSL service).
This HTC phone will now sit permanently in the house and will provide my access to the internet.

I have it working when using my computer to get out and onto the internet (via WiFi connecting to and thru the HTC phone).

However I am now trying to set up a DVR in the house, that I'd like to access remotely...meaning access the DVR from the outside (like when I'm using my laptop while traveling).

According to the DVR instructions, I have to use "port forwarding" on my home router (which is now my HTC phone).
Does anyone know how to configure this ?
Is there a special app that I need etc -- as I can't find anything in the current HTC settings for Port Forwarding.

There are a few port forwarding apps on the google play market place now that should allow you to set up port forwarding on your phone, however, unless you have a sim card with an external ip address this still wont be enough to allow remote access.

I managed to set up a remotely accessible IP camera connected to my phone as a hotspot by first setting up a vpn from my phone to my home broadband router, (using a router with DD-WRT installed makes this easy) I can then access the phone and then anything else connected to it as a hotspot by connecting to my home vpn, and it appears as though the phone is on my home network, even though it could be any where. This was the only way I could get a remote connection to my phone without either an external ip address, or using a third party server. It takes a bit of setting up, and does require that you have access to an internet connection that does have an external ip (for the vpn server) but that connection can be in any location, so long as your remote device can connect to it.
