Portable hotspot issue

Hi, I am facing a wierd issue with my S3. Lately, the signal strength of the Portable hotspot has gone quite low. Not only on the phone it show just one or 2 bars but also when placed close to other devices, the signal strength remains lower. Could anyone please tell what could be issue? Is it hardware or software related and anyway to fix that?

BTW, my phone isn't rooted and has the stock Samsung android 4.3.
