Porting my old number over from AT&T to my T-Bolt replacing my number I was assigned when I bought it last week. Brand new VZW customer with this phone.

Called VZW tech support to do the port and they did it all over the phone. Said the phone would automagically update itself and complete the port. I didn't have to do anything to reprogram the phone.

Only CDMA porting experience I had was my wife's EVO and Sprint had me enter the service menu to change stuff manually.

VZW claims it'll do its thing on its own with no intervention from me. Since the *228 activation thing was mentioned here on AC that it doesn't work on the T-Bolt, I'm hoping what the CSR said it correct.

True?

My husband and both ported our numbers from AT&T to Verizon. His to the iPhone and mine to the Thunderbolt. He had to use the *228 feature and mine was automatic.

Do you remember how long it took to complete the port? Were you guys still under a contract at AT&T? Cause I am and didn't call AT&T to tell them I'm walking away from them. I assume it'll port over and trigger the cancellation/ETF from them, but I'm not sure.

I ported mine from T-Mobile on the Thunderbolt release date... by the time I walked out of the Verizon store both my wife's new phone and mine where done... even though they were both assigned temporary phone number before the porting process was started. Worked great... I'm very happy with VZW's customer support.

Edit: And I was under contract with TMO, but we broke our contract and walked out on TMO.

They said about 4 hours, but it only took a few minutes. I'd say it was around 5-15 minutes. We were under contract. I'm sure we'll have a heafty ETF.

Hmmm, OK. Mine's been an hour. CSR did say 3-24 hours to complete. Just wondering when it might start.

Thanks for the info.

Totally forgot about that.

And I got this: Your port request has been entered into our system, but we cannot submit it to your Old Service Provider without the Verizon Wireless Account Holders consent to begin the porting process. If you are the Verizon Wireless Account Holder please provide your consent by calling 1-866-881-7165.

Grrrrrr. It's my wife's titled account even though I'm added as an 'Account Manager.' Guess that doesn't matter. Also was never told the account holder had to call/anoint the process.

Surprisingly, it was an automated phone call for my wife to make. I'm guessing they read her caller ID and accepted her release of the port. About a half hour later and a reboot of the phone and it was all done. Works fine now and my AT&T online account is now restricted to just paying my bill (HA!).

Thanks all
