Portrait and landscape

This seems to be the same with iPhones as well as Samsung. Why can't manufacturers understand that if I take a photo in landscape, that is what I want to see in gallery without having to rotate it from portrait?

All the app sees is a file. It has no way of knowing whether it was taken in portrait or landscape

That's a shame. Pity the default is not landscape as most of my photos are that way.
