Possible camera problem

So I recorded a video with the phone held horizontally. On playback before pressing play and holding the phone vertically the picture is in the centre of the screen with the black margins above and below, which is what I expected. However if I tap play the video fills the whole screen but is elongated. If I then hold the phone horizontally everything is fine so not really a problem, but is this normal? Hope I've explained this ok!!

If you're using the stock video player you can change the View mode with the little rectangle icon on the lower left corner of the screen.
