Just picked up my Honor 8 this past Saturday. I must say that I am.more than impressed.
5 pros...5 cons....trust, I have more pros than 5...Just wanted to cap it.

Pros

1. Perfect size

2. Amazingly smooth even with the its non.traditional take on Android....No lagging

3. The photo editing software is actually really good.

4. Front facing camera is excellent as is the rear shooter (stills not video)

5. Display, display, display...if someone tells you 1080 is not high resolution enough... slow clap their ignorance and whip out the Honor 8.

Cons....

1. Some incompatibilities with apps... I've only run into one but I would suppose their May be others.

2. Video. It looks fine but optical video stabilization and videos seem to jump.

3. Accessories are scarce...especially in.the good screen protector department.

4.ahhh

5 uhhhh

I'm coming from a 6p (better phone), but I like the Honor 8 more. Also had the axon 7, but returned it at Best Buy for the Honor 8. The Axon is decent but the reception is POOR and the stock launcher is very limited in function in comparison.

If you have questions about it from a real use scenario drop a line.... this is truly the first phone I've felt like keeping since the BlackBerry Storm 2 (if you got a good Storm 2 it was a great phone)

Great post! Glad that you are liking it!

Out of curiosity, what apps are you having issues with?

I agree about the accessories. Using a supershieldz plastic screen protector and it covers well.

Being that these "unlocked phones" don't work on all carriers, I feel flagships are safe. Now if Honor went the moto route and made their unlocked mid range devices work on all carriers (like verizon) i could see that being the case. With that being said, most people still walk into a carrier store to buy a phone, so until it is in more stores, it will be a tough sell since most won't know it exists.

You are certainly more limited if you are on Verizon or sprint. Honor 8 don't work but the 5x,6p,axon7,mxpe, Moto g4, Moto g play, and some others will work. And while your selection is limited, it is still much better than 2 years ago.

Actually I just reloaded this really addictive diving game and it is.now working flawlessly.

Luv my Honor 8

To be more clear, what I'm saying is that inexpensive phones are at a point that they are performing as well as carrier flagship that cost sometimes twice as much.

For me the carrier flagship is dead. I have had one carrier phone this year that I returned. Other phones were all unlocked gems....One plus one while waiting on my One plus 3, Nexus 6p, Axon (decent phone but I didn't like the reception, and the Honor 8.

Same features, less money, some what equal performamce, sometimes better designs.... the only really good carrier phones in.my opinion are S7 and the iphone.... think if people give some of the other Vendors like Honor an opportunity sales of these "premium" devices would be reduced or at a min the prices would have to fall...but we know that won't happen people are locked into the phone purchase through carrier model.

I think these unlocked $400 phones are going to may Samsung and apple reconsider their prices. If an iPhone 7 plus was $650, I would move to that phone. But I love my Axon 7 and Honor 8 that my wife has.

I wouldn't say same features. Close to the same sure. The difference between $400 and $800 phones is no where near double, but there are certainly more features on the note 7. Of course if the features aren't important to you, then don't pay more.
Also, Samsung has been really quick at updating security updates, practically monthly. Honor only promises every 3 months. We'll see if they stick to even that. They didn't for the 5x, to date

I agree, except those lower priced phones still do not seem to get as much update support as the flagships do. Some are obviously better than others when it comes to this.

Probably the best budget oriented options for those wanting quick updates would be nexus 5x and 6p. Honor did mention quarterly security updates, given their track record with the Honor 5x,I would not expect them to do monthly security updates.
