Possible iPhone convert

Any iPhone converts here? I considered the Note last year but delayed long enough for the issues to happen. Seems like the Note has a lot more features than the iPhone and the next gen isn't going to change that especially if they remove touchid. But they both cost the same. 2 things have kept me on iPhone. iMessage since my wife also has an iPhone. And my Apple Watch, which I have come to love.

I know I can use link sharing to send photos and videos to my wife in full quality but would there be any way for her to send them to me? Just email?

Any of you that have made the switch regret it?

Thanks for any thoughts or comments!

Keep in mind that everyone will have a different experience. People have different uses and different apps installed. With that said. I like the Note. I do have (and will keep) my iPhone 7 Plus. I just don't like how the OS is locked down.

I got my list of apps all set to install tomorrow when the Note 8 arrives:

These are the primary apps on my iPhone 6S Plus - but in no particular order or preference....

1. Evernote
2. Dropbox
3. Android Central
4. Youtube
5. Instagram
6. WhatsApp
7. Waze
8. Credit Karma
9. Capital One
10. AT&T App
11. Squid
12. Hiya
13. Aqua Mail Pro
14. Keep&Share
15. BitDefender Mobile Security & Antivirus
16. Tiny Scanner
17. TD Bank
18. Amazon

Thanks so much for the replies folks. I do know everyone's experience will be different but that's what's great about forums, you can get a lot of viewpoints.

You have antivirus on your list, is that something you'd need with this? Never worried about it with iPhone. Also, does the fingerprint scanner work for things like banking apps? The placement of it is a downside but at least they included it. I wear glasses so not sure how good the retina scan is.

I was a iPhone user for years, I had one from the 2nd year all the way up to iPhone 6 Plus and I got the Note bug for the Note 7. When they recalled both of mine I stuck with the S7 Edge and was notified this afternoon of my tracking number for my Note 8. I don't see me going back to a iPhone anytime soon. I do still have a iPad

The iris/retina scanner was one of my absolute favorite features on the 7, one reason I didn't want to give it up. I'm a grease monkey and often found working on my toys with greasy hands/gloves so the iris scanner was an absolute blessing for me. Never had any issues with getting it to work. I don't see how the 8 would be any different. FPS works for banking apps etc as well

An A/V app isn't really necessary. Android is pretty good at keeping most of that stuff out. However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The biggest things I always miss from my iPhone(I switch between iPhone and Android a lot) is iMessage and more importantly the keyboard. The keyboard on iOS is so much better in terms of accuracy. I'm constantly hitting the wrong key no matter which keyboard I use on android, stock or third party.

In terms of leaving iMessage, I've heard that some people no longer get certain messages or that group messaging becomes a mess. Are there any tips or other SMS apps to avoid this? I don't mean alternatives like Facebook messenger but ones that work well with sms and iPhone users?

Thanks!

I switch frequently between iOS and Android and I am in several group chats. No issues for me. I get messages from both iOS users and android users just fine.

Do you use the stock Samsung app for messaging?

Yes, stock messages app but I'm currently using Swiftkey for my 3rd party keyboard and I increased the size of the keyboard. I might try Gboard??? If you are what 3rd party keyboard are you using?

I love the iPhone. I have never had any issues with them. The Note series has always been my favorite however. I was crushed last year when I had to return my Note 7. There isn't really anything that I'm anticipating from the new iPhone that would bring something more or different than the Note 8.

So it's been almost 24 hours since I pulled the sim from the iPhone 6S Plus and dropped it into the Note 8. Most of the apps I use are cloud based so it's just a matter of installing the app & then all the data is synced from the cloud.

The two adjustments for me were texts (iMessage & WhatsApp).

For iMessage, not having the connectivity to the entire history of all the messages I sent feels... weird. I also needed to change the setting in iMessage so that, my phone number is not associated with iMessage anymore (just my email address).

WhatsApp surprised me because... while you can back up your messages, chats, etc... you can't easily cross the aisle. iPhones back up to iCloud and Androids back up to Google Drive. But to restore from one side and put it to the other can't easily be done (If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it).

Other than that, I've only twice said "Hey Siri" instead of "OK Google"...

I found an article from a year or two ago how to transfer your messages from your iPhone to Android. I'm not sure if the android app still exists or if the method still works. I plan on trying it when I get my Note in a week, but if you give it a try post back and let us know if it works. Hope it helps.
