Possible to get sound out of micro USB slot?

I'm curious if anyone who's been fortunate enough to play with the EVO 4G so far can confirm if the micro USB port outputs sound as well as data/power. I know there's a 3.5mm jack, but that's on top.

I am having a hard time visualizing my cable setup in the car. Currently I have a Touch Pro2, and both the charging cable and the 3.5mm cable come out of the bottom of the device. Nice, clean look.

With the EVO, I picture the charging cable coming out from the bottom and (very dorkily), the 3.5mm cable coming out of the top of the device, dangling all goofy-like, in my way!

Hoping a "Y" adaptor (like on previous HTC devices) would provide the option for power & sound out of the micro USB slot...

+1 I am wondering this as well.

I guess another way of asking this: Does the micro USB port on the EVO have the same squared off edge on one side that the mini USB on the hero does?

I did a lot of research on this coming from an iPhone and loving the fact I could stream Pandora through my car stereo. As of now a 3.5mm jack is the only way to get sound streamed through the car speakers as far as I know. I have the Evo and it works the same as the incredible...no sound through the usb.

That is a major bummer. I can deal with it, but damn, that is going to look so stupid, having a cable coming out of both ends of the device in my convertible! I usually have my car mount installed in the lower left corner of the windshield - I'm gonna have cables all over the place!

Here's hoping for the cleanest solution possible...

With all the awesomeness that went into the Evo, it should have a 12-pin out. The HTC Multi-function adapter was awesome. 1 plug into the device, then it splits into audio and charging cables. But so far it's only been for mini-USB. I hope they make one for the micro devices, since HTC is officially going away from mini-USB.

for people who do not have a bluetooth stero or an inline jack there is a product called jupiter jack. I am sure some people have seen the commercials. It works great for calls and since it uses the head phone jack I do not see any problems with it for an FM tuner. and its only 9.99. I got one at CVS

My gut feeling is that the EVO does have it (HTC loves their extended USB ports), but unless someone can check to see if the extra pins are in there, we will have to wait till Friday. Also, we will have to wait for the official 12-pin adapter (or make your own like the guy I linked to a few post up).

I experienced this yesterday ... yes, yes it is annoying to have power and one end and audio at the other. The phone won't freaking set down either direction in the cup holder.

This pic is from the Evo teardown at ifixit.com. It certainly not 5 pins on that connector!

The USB plug (the upper one) is fairly blocked by some doodad ...

Knowing what little I know of engineering, if you can specify the USB's square wave output frequency then you can get direct audio out (in at least one channel). IDK enough about USB specs to give more advice or whether the system gives you access to that low a level of the hardware, but it's one avenue to investigate if required.
