Possible virus or malware

I have a samsung s II. I was visiting my uni web site, i think, this morning, when a whatsapp pop up add asked me to renew. I accidentaly clicked on it because i was about to click on the web page. I don't know if downloaded anything, but it redirected me to a web page that wanted my phone number so i closed the page straight away. I ran avast antivirus which said the phone was safe. I did a factory reset , which saved some files and apps i think connected to my google account, don't know how good of a reset it was jad todo it through the settings menù because home button doesn't work. Am i being paranoied? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! If it only brought up a website, you should be ok. The main way malware would get on your phone would be if you actually downloaded a file and then agreed to install it.
