doubt its coming this month.. all they're saying is "soon" and that's a very relative term

I feel I must correct this way of thinking with a little bit of facts.


Moto said by the end of Q1 (march 31st)

Then they said "soon" as in before the end of Q1.

Since we're almost at the end of this month, I assume it comes this month.

Also there where some small reports of people with Droid's getting a software update prompt, and it failing. Same with the Eris. Granted, there where far more eris reports than droid, but whatever. And that gives me reason to believe Moto does push the big button to do this.

Probably means they hit the button a day too early. That means the "button" does in fact exists to a point where it can be pushed by someone giving us the sweet sweet nectar that is 2.1

If it has gotten to the point where they can easily released it to some people (half way), if means that its probably very much so ready and will be out here by the end of next week i'll bet.

Not to mention that as much as I like Verizon, there is no denying that they are synonymous for delaying or flat out rejecting software updates beyond reasonable measures.

Clarification

This led me to believe that you thought Droid and Droid Eris were made by the same manufacturer.

this also made me think you were mistaking the manufacturer of the Droid Eris as Motorola, because the Eris has not had a report of receiving a 2.1 update except at MWC (no reported date), but the Droids is supposed to be coming any day now. So to say "a day too early" implies that you were expecting the Droid Eris to be unveiling a 2.1 update today which is more in line with the Droid's update time frame. Sorry for mistaking you.

It does exist within each carrier (in our case Verizon). But after the shaky and questionable release of Droid Eris 2.1 i bet that "Nectar button" lol is under heavy watch.

the less than full release just falls in line with Verizon's recent protocol for OTA release. Start with a small sample size and then release it to more and more users. this is so if their is a problem with the OTA release, they can cancel it before it reaches the full user populous.

If you're referring to the Eris 2.1, it may be out by the end of next week because some users have already begun receiving a full working update. As for the Droid 2.1 we're all still stuck in the "will be released soon" limbo.

According to a very reliable source of mine (and please don't ask about the source, all I will say is that it works closely with Verizon), Android 2.1 has been delayed for the Droid because of bugs discovered late. That's the bad news. Good news is that it *should* only be delayed for two more weeks.

Take it for what it's worth but that's what's happening.

Actually. I recently heard the same thing, but didnt want to be the one to deliver the bad news and be flamed. But I will support and agree that sadly it appears as though atleast another 2 weeks. We may be surprised, but I wouldnt hold my breath if I was you.
