Ok I am confused about something here. We have been hearing that the reason 2.1 is not out and what it will and what it won't have when it comes out is on Verizons shoulders. but why is Engadget saying this:

Also notable (and perhaps a selling point for some) is that the DROID is a Google Experience device, which should theoretically mean that it's more likely to receive fast and frequent software updates than its skinned cousins like the CLIQ. The Google Experience is sort of the "gold standard" Android showcase for the company, so to speak, and it's in Google's best interest to keep it rock solid at all times -- and since there's no third-party skin to revalidate after every Android version is released, the update process should go a heck of a lot smoother.

If this is the case then isn't it up to google to decide when the droid gets the update and what it will have??

Can't we come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter anymore?
We can sit here and speculate until the cows come home, but unless one of you are one of the big wigs at Moto, Google, or VZW, none of you REALLY know.

Many say its VZW, others say its Moto. In all honesty? We really don't know. We just sit here and b.s. our way through these forums to try to sound smart.

You know who I am going to blame? The Detroit Lions..........all their fault.

My bet is on Verizon. They are usually the ones either double-checking the OS or trying to "strategically" place it to maximize profit.

That sucks. Its just pushing me further to getting a n1 I don't want to see the same thing that happened to the storm but it seems like their going to be slow about updating

Droid Eris needed that update..and it lost SenseUI in the process. You're left with a phone that's still inferior to the Droid. I'd take my Droid with 2.0.1 over an Eris with 2.1 as of today.

It was a mistake. Verizon claims that they have not pushed anything out and that 2.1 for the eris is in the testing process.

Good old patched has confermed drois eris 2.1 is in "user friendly testing" in VZW. So nithing has been released to the general public yet.

I now hereby make the claim, based on information well reputed by my corporate cohorts who have corporate channels into Verizon, an individual I know as a validation engineer, who has informed me that VZ has let everything by with a green light on the Droid's 2.1 update, and that we're just waiting for Moto to initiate the phased rollout.

Will happen very soon, no later than next week. As it was explained to me, the ball is in Motorola's court to start these shenanigans.

At the same time, Eris was just a mistake, should be a more formal explanation when the next "business hours" roll around.

Lets all hope you are correct.

If true, I'm all in.
Eagerly awaiting the update.

2.1 for Droid could be rolling out right now.

From Droid-Life:

Update 4:04pm: one of our sources has confirmed a call from a motorola droid user who received an ota update to 2.1, but came across issues while attempting to install it. after 2 attempts at the update, they were still on 2.0.1.

it's now sounding more and more like eris users truly are receiving some sort of an update to 2.1. some are reporting that sense ui is missing while others apparently still have it. and now after our source has confirmed an update request from a droid user, we have to wonder what verizon has done this time. this is shaping up to be a huge disaster for htc, motorola and verizon.

This is turning out to be a lot of bad PR for Verizon lets hope they can get this under control

My guess is someone at VZW pulled the trigger on the wrong device, and they pudhed the Moto Droid update to the Eris Droids.

Just a guess on my part.
