The only thing I'm really looking forward to with the 2.1 update are the various bug fixes and the pinch-to-zoom in the stock browser.

Otherwise, I'm indifferent to the new gallery effects or the changes to the music player.

Doesn't 2.1 also include the addition of speech-to-text so you can input text into any typing field by simply dictating to the phone?

2.1 is supposed to have speech to text, which is a feature I can't not be patient any longer for. I can't remember if it is in motorola's update list. I wonder if they'll assign a physical button on the keyboard the roll for STT. I know it seems almost stupid to be using the physical keyboard while also using STT, but Google's STT software isn't perfect. So for real fast corrections to missed words, I will probably go physical over virtual. I think if you long press the search or menu buttons it should activate STT.

A question I have about STT. When you're filling in a text box can you use it individually for each sentence? Or do you have to get your phrase out in one statement. Esentially, does it clear the text box if you use it more than once in the same field?

hey buddy,

You can use it for each sentence...essentially you can speak...stop...itll pop up the words...then press the speech button again and say another sentence

hope this helps :)

Sweet, this makes STT something that i'm super excited for.

Not much of 2.1 gets me that excited but: 5 homescreens, Browser Pinch-To-Zoom, and Native Speach-To-Text, Are definitely the prominent features. with a little battery life on top.

You guys will not use speech to text that much after you see how frustrating it can be. I've shut it off on my Nexus One.

Using speech search I've found about 50% accuracy. I think I'll be shutting speech to text off right away. I just want the MT browser and battery life improvements.

Yeah what good is it if you have to go back and fix have the things you said? Might as well just type it out.

Enhanced Virtual Keboard

Does anyone have any information regarding the "Enhanced Virtual Keyboard" functionality rolling out with 2.1? Rumor or actual experience from anyone who installed the leaked version of 2.1 that is circulating is greatly appreciated. I searched this forum and the web and have not found anything more than "Enhanced Virtual Keyboard". I am a Droid newbie (bb convert) and am really struggling with all of the Droid's keyboards. I am hoping 2.1 makes my life easier.

Thanks in advance.

First off, give it time. You'll get better with all 3 keyboard settings. Go to settings, language and keyboard, android keyboard settings and turn on vibrate on keypress. Hold the phone sideways (hardware keyboard in) and type. This is landscape mode. Its pretty manageable.

The hardware keyboard will improve with use. I hated it at first but it has gotten much springier. Took about a month but now its really usable. I do wish it had a dedicated number row though.

I'm assuming the enhancements may just be dictionary based and maybe slightly improved button press detection.. Not sure.

Thanks. I made that change and it does help. Still tough though. I am sure it will get better with practice, but I honestly don't remember struggling this much with BB. I am hoping 2.1 brings some improvements too......Love the device otherwise (so far).

IF anyone else has any suggestions or insight on how 2.1 might (not) help w/ the keyboard challenge, I would love to hear it.
