I was in the same boat. The battery life,screen,processor and a few other features mad me realize the Droid was the etter choice. Grew comfortable to the size and form factor very quickly.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info.

I know 2.1 is supposed to help the Eris overall especially battery life which seems to be an issue but looks like I may go for the Droid.

It came out ota to testers. That's it. It's not an update. Engadget is just fanning the rumor flames to get a boost in site traffic. That's their job.

I work for an authorized retailer for VZW, and we're trained on new devices by actual corporate VZW employees. We were told that the Eris would not be able to be updated to Android 2.0 because of the slower processor installed in the device.

What an idiot. LOL

That's what I thought how could Verizon mess up and release a half baked update to the public.

I have given up on the Droid Eris. Update or no Update I am just not happy with its performance. I am in an unfortunate situation where there is no Verizon reception in my office. I have had Verizon replace the phone twice with no success. I believe that this phone took so long to be released that newer models came out and just made this phone obsolete. If I would have known that the Nexus One was coming out a month later, I would have definitely waited, since T-Mobile does work in my office.

I kept the phone past the 30 day trial period, because I thought the update would fix the issues I have, but now I have a feeling that Verizon is going give us a stripped down version of the 2.1 update. I just do not trust Verizon.

Seriously...do you even know what you're talking about...a stripped down version? What do you think is included in 2.1 that makes it all that different? You do realize that HTC has to take the 2.1 O/S and integrate it with HTC Sense before Vz gets their hands on it. This isn't like the crap Vz GUI that they throw on their dumb phones.

Why would you keep a phone for 30 days if it doesn't work in your office?

You don't trust Verizon...why?

There's always going to be a bigger better phone on the horizon, maybe a pager would better suit your needs if you want something future proof.

Our office officially has bad reception for cell phones, so our company installed cellular AP's to boost reception in the building. Talk to your IT staff they can boost reception in the buildings with some money.

Just got back from the Verizon store where the sales executive showed me his email stating that Eris was getting 2.1 and was released today at 3:00 pm EST. Also said they would be getting the Nexus One before the end of the 1st quarter.

I do not lie.... He showed me the email on his blackberry. As far as the Nexus One coming out before the end of the 1st quarter and am skeptical, but hopeful.

If they update is being rolled out wouldn't someone be able to get the file out to others so we could update like 2.0.1 was with the Droid? So it must be under "testing" OTA right now.

Those getting 2.1 OTA read this first before you install it, please.

For those of you who just MAY get a valid 2.1 update, dont get it right away do the following so everyone else can grab it and download it manually to install on our phones to beat the OTA wait.

1)Deny the OTA update when the phone prompts you, dont worry you can manually get this later.

2) Install the SDK on your computer and run the command

adb -d logcat UpdateReceiver:I CheckinService:I *:S

3)It will shoot out a link, POST IT and we can then download the RUU for our own use, including distribution to all of us who haven't got the update via OTA.

Hey just got off the phone with tech support because my friend and I are swapping phones. He gets my storm 2 and I get his Eris. So I called to ask about the update, she said she has the Eris and she said it is true that it is suppose to be out. She has not recerived it yet either though but should be soon.
