I saw crackberry mentioned in this thread and the "rumor mill". It's definitely tough to be searching for news and reading about people that heard things from "a guy" and constantly have "sources"---but then the rumor never comes true. Unfortunately, it really discredits a lot of people's word.

My personal philosophy is: when I see it (with my eyes, not a potential photoshop job!), that's when I finally believe it.

no wai! google's software update track record is pretty good IMO. the slow downs are with HTC, since they need to update sense for the newer software builds, and then needs to be tested by VZW.

this will be nothing like blackberry. rim is slow at building usable compiles, and even when they're "usable", they're usually buggy as an old log.

Not to add to rumors but I just bought my Droid Eris at BestBuy and their Verizon Rep was there. I spoke with him and he said that it should be end of this month or beginning of next month. It will be 2.1 and not 2.0.

He also stated that Nexus One would come shortly after that in March.

He could be just bluffing but he was telling a bunch of people. He said included in the 2.1 android release will be HTC Sense UI 1.5. So hopefully soon.

Nexus 1 is coming March or April, but I haven't heard anything from VZW about testing for the eris. Doesn't mean they aren't, just means I haven't heard yet.

I can tell you I work at an indirect agent Verizon exclusive and I haven't heard of when an update is being rolled out, nor when N1 is coming so that dude probably saw something on the internet false probably and knows just as much as we do.

A lot of rumors everywhere. Well, as everyone else said. We will believe when we see it. But again, these rumors give us hope for to get the best out of droid eris. (crossfingers*)

Software updates can be held up at any of 3 possible points:
Android
Manufacturer
Carrier

Also, consider that each hardware arrangement requires a different formatting for screen dimension and other variables.

Ultimately I've given up and resigned myself to waiting for N1 coming to VZ. No disrespect to those working on rooting the Eris. It will go to my wife so that I can reap whatever perceived benefit to a 2 year contract for fewer $$$ up front... LOl

I'm thinking this is what I'm going to do too. I might change my mind if the root results are good, but as for the update, I'm just giving up expecting it.

I went to the VZ store yesterday because my wife's LG was acting up... While waiting, I picked up the Moto Droid and OMG it's fast and the UI is sweet - though I couldn't tell 2.0 or 2.1. Still no regrets about the Eris because I got it free plus I can pawn it off to my wife when the N1 comes out for VZ
