Post All Eris 2.1 Update Rumors, News, and Updates HERE

We're a VZW exclusive and we know pretty much stuff all that Corp stores do considering VZW has a say in anything we do b/c we are an exclusive and can put the VZW name up.

My point is that stores, care reps, supervisors, managers, etc...they don't know stuff until about 48 to 72 hours in advance. Usually cuz that's when the training is.

The people who know stuff are the ones who have the 30, 60, 90 day roadmap for testing and release.

I'm thinking this is what I'm going to do too. I might change my mind if the root results are good, but as for the update, I'm just giving up expecting it.

"The word", as I remember it, was simply that the 2.0 or 2.1 upgrade would be in the first quarter of 2010, and we're still very early in that. I'm as anxious for 2.0/2.1 as anyone, but let's just give it a little time.

Yup, still 50 days. I am just caught up in all this craziness and need to stay away from these forums, and enjoy the device I have.

I'm curious: Are there particular features you guys want out of 2.0? Or, are you just wanting an update?

Really the only reason I know of to want 2.0 on my Eris is for Google Maps turn by turn navigation. Are there other things I should be complaining about not having?

Ultimately I've given up and resigned myself to waiting for N1 coming to VZ. No disrespect to those working on rooting the Eris. It will go to my wife so that I can reap whatever perceived benefit to a 2 year contract for fewer $$$ up front... LOl

I feel the same way. I hear the Nexus One will be in the end of March.

there is not only the advantage of google maps navigation, but quite a few updates including updated android market plus more app capability, the possibility of greater speed due to memory organization and app controll, and one can only hope it will improve the dismal battery life on the eris.

all that being said its always nice to have the newest and most advanced as well. plus we wouldn't want the droid and N1 owners getting too smug would we?

I'm mostly just wanting Navigation. I've passed on buying a nav system for the car, believing that within several weeks I'd have it on my phone, at least a good enough version.

one of the deciding factors for me in purchasing an Eris (besides that it was $9.99 on amazon and much more beautiful than a droid) was that I already own a GPS unit and am in no hurry to get Google turn-by-turn. Once the update comes out in the next month or so, I'll just give the GPS to my girlfriend for her car :)

In addition to the turn by turn Nav, you'll also get screenshot preview of apps in the Market and Google's new Social Network app "Buzz" Not sure what other differences there are but those are a few I know of.

Awesome, I knew there were others, I was just curious as to what the big want of people here is.

On crackberry people would moan and groan constantly cause they didn't have the new OS, even when the phone had been out for a few months. I think most people just started to want the OS and didn't really know what it got them. I'm looking forward to seeing all the things that the 2.0 is gonna bring my Eris!

This is ridiculous. the droid and every other phone is getting 2.1 and we cant even get 2.0. i just watched the video of sense running on 2.1 to what the hell man. lets o this.

i agree... this is very frustrating seeing cool apps i cant download

For those that are saying "this is ridiculous or frustrating" chill out, this update was committed for 1Q 2010, give them until the end of March before you start stressing.

Also realize, the reason the Moto Droid gets updates before the Eris is the same reason why a lot of you probably bought the Eris in the first place (HTC Sense). HTC Sense adds a nice polished experience to Android, but it also adds another layer of testing to integrate it with Android updates. So relax, we have no reason to assume it's not coming.

Also I know we've discussed some of the differences we'll see with 2.x, here's a good read: Android 2.0 Platform Highlights | Android Developers. 2.1 is not significantly different from 2.0. The biggest change I've heard about with 2.1 is the ability to use animated wallpaper.

Ok, for what it's worth, as everybody seems to know somebody at Verizon... Here is what I found out today from a very good friend that works at Verizon Corporate: They currently have 2.1 for the Eris in testing and the time frame for release is 2 weeks from now. The Droid update will come out first (most likely within a week), then the Eris update will follow right after.

I'm really looking forward to this update as I could really use the Google Navigation App.

Thanks. This sounds reasonable. As for me, I am expecting end of March, so anything earlier will be nice.

I received a notification on Facebook, from HTC, that the update is still pending. The notification basically said "remember that the update was promised for the 1st quarter of 2010, which extends to 31 March." So while they may not be able to tell us exactly when, it does sound like it is still a definite plan.

When they say "two weeks", that means they don't know.

The way testing works is this: lab/network testing, friendly user testing...once it passes both they release it usually within 48 hours.

So only the people who are testing know when the testing period ends. That's all that's really for sure. Anything else as far as release dates are up in the air until it passes testing and is approved for release.

Summary of my rant: anything more than 2 or 3 days notice is speculation, 99.5% of the time

Well there's also Customer Rep training that comes after testing. Usually when the training is scheduled, the release date can be finalized. Case in point, what about the OTA update we got on 1/22...that date was released well in advance. Even Motorolla leaked the 2.1 release ahead of time. It's ready, but Vz is advising them to hold it back. Maybe they're trying to tie the 2 updates together or fit them into some planned release schedule.

I can also tell you this, as I work for Vz Communications (not wireless). Production dates for us are set well in advance, at least 6 weeks. Testing is accounted for in that window. When issues are found in test, the prod dates don't automatically slip, rather workarounds are found, more resources are dedicated towards resolving the issue...etc. Moving the prod date is the last available option and seldom happens. Not saying wireless operates in the same fashion, but I doubt they're all that different.
