You can wake it with the power button, the fingerprint sensor or holding the home button on the bottom of the lock screen (assuming you have AOD activated). Those are the ways I have found.

You wake up the screen by pressing the on screen home button it's a capacitive type of touch so you press a little bit harder as if it were an actual button and it works great

You can push the home button as well...
