Post your HTC U11 review/initial thoughts here!

Photos is the only gallery on the U11. My G6 comes with gallery with privacy features built in and google photos. If there are photos I don't want anyone seeing, I can lock them which makes them disappear from the gallery, but still be able to show pics to people without anything weird showing up lol. Just locking the photos app doesn't really do much if everything is archived right there when you open it up.
Oh, u misunderstood me... Photos let u archive (hide) pictures now

But if you are using Google Photos as a backup service, unless you are moving those photos immediately to the secure folder, Google would have backed that up already.

Finally got mine, black. Black looks black, I see no green or anything else in it. Hate to say it, but it looks and feels like plastic.

It is slippery as all get-out. Unbelievably slippery. I put it down on a counter and it literally walks off and slid down on to the carpet. I laid it on my lap and it slides right off. Ridiculously slippery. I'm going to spray the clear cover with a clear non-slip coating I have in a spray can, hopefully that will let me hang on to the thing.

Also noticed that the cell phone connectivity is about half of what my Moto X Pure Edition is. I get like 2 bars in places where I had 4 before. Also, it stutters on WiFi connectivity, about half the time it stops and tells me WiFi isn't connected when it is.

I got rid of the dumb "Highlights" thing also and replaced it with Google Now launcher. Also, none of the app icons or the clock would line up on the home screen until I replaced it with the Google Now launcher.

BTW, the U11 looks and feels nearly identical to the Moto X P.E. I was shocked when I pulled the U11 out of the box and felt it, it is identical to the Moto X but maybe 1 mm thinner. And a lot more slippery...

So far, not really impressed, to be honest. I expected better. Sorry guys!

UPDATE: I now decided to give this one to my wife, who needs a replacement for her old LG Flex. I'm not pleased with the U11 at all, I absolutely hate the dialer, which uses 2/3 of the screen for the number pad and then you have to swipe down to see the contacts.

Apparently, you can not set it to open to the favorite contacts every time AND the worst thing is that you can't move around your favorite contacts, it lists them by alphabetical order only and that's it?!

Also on the dialer, I sometimes need to copy/paste the last number called to check if its spam, so I can block it with Blacklist Pro. The HTC only lets you copy the full number without hyphens, so I then have to manually add the hyphens.

Also, I really, really miss my instant notifications that I had on the Moto X, which shows the latest emails, texts, etc. with a touch on the home screen. The home screen on the U11 looks positively cheesy in comparison.

And finally, there's no photo album? Only Google photos, which I hate.

Overall, very disappointed in the U11, it seems like a generation old compared to my 2 year old Moto X Pure Edition. I was mad at Motorola for not updating with Nougat, but to be honest, I don't notice any difference anyway on the U11. So I guess I've now realized I'm a die-hard Motorola guy. I'll wait for the next version of the Moto Z Play.

So I am coming from the Pixel XL and I've got to tell you, this u11 is fast. Like blazingly quick. Even makes the Pixel seem just a micro second slow. I was really pleased with my initial pictures, all in relatively low light. The shutter speed was quick and the pictures were top notch. The screen gets very bright but I haven't been outside in the sun yet. Again, I can't believe how fast the phone whips around. Amazing. I'm off to set up the usonic buds. The only thing I'm not used to is the lower navigation buttons. Hopefully my current annoyance with them goes away.

I'm returning mine to Amazon. I'm just not happy with it compared to my G6. I should have known since I tried the 10 twice and sold them both within a month. Good luck to everyone with the U11. Hope you all enjoy the phone more than I did.

Me too, more than likely. There is nothing really wrong with the U11, it just is not quite up to par with the other flagship phones.

I just have a hard time with stock or near stock Android. I actually like some of the "bloat" that LG and Samsung add in to their phones. I also really really like the AOD on my G6. It's so much better than constantly having to wake the U11 to see the time, or what notification I have. If the U11 had an AOD and some added things in the UI, I'd keep it, but it doesn't so it's going back.

I'm switching to the U11 from the M9. This new phone truly is sweet. fast. smooth. fingerprint unlock is instantaneous and very forgiving of finger position.

I could gush for a long time, so let's quickly cut to my dislikes:
- several apps I had used on HTC M9 Nougat are incompatible with U11 Nougat
- I dislike the default keyboard and the old HTC keyboard isn't compatible
- the phone lacks the familiar grip points/edges of the M9: I'm afraid to let others hold it!
- my Moto360 2 and U11 refuse to see each other on Bluetooth
- photos of my San Francisco sky don't exactly match the color I'm seeing at the time

I digress, back to gushing!
- loving the camera! (admittedly I get along with every HTC phone camera Ive had): photos default towards 'impressive'
- HTC's much maligned button placement feels justified applied to this larger phone
- the speakers still sound great
- theming using my own photos feels even better on the U11, possibly because of this excellent screen

Sample photos: Day 2

Following up on my statement that the sky was incorrectly colored in photos taken with the U11, I decided to take photos with the two phones, of the same scenes. What I observed on Day 1 didn't really recur today.

Notes:
- The M9, besides being two years old has multiple cracks across the camera lens.
- Most of the U11 were taken in the default mode and the BART station in "Pro" mode.

So far the U11 is better in every respect than the 10. Much smoother, much faster and uses much less battery through the day than my HTC 10.

Is the screen (being LCD) no match for the AMOLED big boys? And how about compared to fellow LCD ones?

Is the bottom speaker supposed to be just a tad louder than the top speaker? :/

Being a biamped system, being the lows and mids are coming out there it probably is a little louder. Highs just don't need a much power to be mixed correctly...

I've owned almost every HTC up until the HTC 10. I decided to get rode of Galaxy S8+ and but the U11.

So far I'm liking it. it's very sleek and stylish. It's fast too.

So far, I'm liking my decision.

Maybe I am biased I have owned a HTC phone for as long as I can remember, right from the first Desire.
This one for sure beats them all the responsiveness of this phone is just amazing.
I also own a S8 phone which is very good but there is something about the U11 that just makes me go back to it I own the blue one and everywhere I go people want to take selfies with it.
Off point I also have the Oppo r9s what a phone two days battery usage even with heavy usage guaranteed.

For anyone using Google Assistant if you turn off location history you will greatly increase the battery life. Not the location setting in the main settings. Just the Assistant location history.

Where do you do that?

What do people not like about the included case? Not enough protection? I do want a clear case.

Do not rely on this case for protection. If u drop it out your hand on a hard surface, expect some sort of damage.

I love the phone overall, nonetheless.
