Potentially defective device, should I return?

Hey, I think my device has a defective battery but I wanted a second opinion before I went through with returning it. I noticed it was getting really bad idle drain with no notable rogue apps showing up in the battery usage menu. I was getting the same looking battery usage graph (in terms of apps and processes using percentages) as everyone else I was seeing post screen shots, but with vastly different and lower amounts of device on time and screen on time. One day I hit 10% power after only 5 and a half hours with 32 minutes of screen on time.

I decided to test this out by charging the phone all the way, rebooting it to kill any background apps, put it in airplane mode to kill an data usage, and leave it with the screen off for an hour. During that time the battery dropped 4 almost 5%. That seems rather high given the aforementioned conditions. I've posted screenshots below from that little experiment.

Thoughts? I'll add more info in the form of screen shots from regular usage as I get them. Thanks in advance.

Something on the phone is using the battery. What do you have installed on it?

How's your cell signal? If it's poor the phone will eat through battery trying to constantly connect.

You may well have a defective battery. But I would try a factory reset before sending it back.

Alright, I have a few screenshots from a normal day (well, more accurately, a full battery charge.) Given that low number of screen on time and no notable apps popping up as taking significant battery, i'd have to think it's a defective device still. Ya'll's thoughts?

Do you have Google now on with accurate location? I find this really drains the battery. Because of the holidays my usage today is extremely light for example.

Nah, my location is set to the battery saving one.

I would return it. I have had mine off the charger for 25 hours and am at 50% - although I have not been using it much. I had to return my first device to Google for a constant snap, crackle, pop when in the earpiece when taking. The RMA went very smooth and I had the new phone within a few days (it shipped out the same day).

I have done at least one since getting it, might as well try again though to be sure.

yeah try another reset before sending it in. Could you install BBS or cpu spy and see if its going into a deep sleep. Sound like a rogue app is running even tho your screen is off. Nexus 5 is one of the best non drain battery device I ever had. Over 7 hours of deep sleep I think I drain about 1%

As dazzer says it's probably an app that keeps looking for updates such as Facebook.

BBS and GSam Don't work on the N5, I had a thread about this in here before. Apparently Kit Kat doesn't allow access to much of the battery usage info. Are there any other good ways to check this out? Also, if it was a rogue app like FB, wouldn't it show up in the battery usage screen there?

After a factory reset are you installing any apps? I'd suggest not installing anything and test it out. If all seems OK then gradually install your apps giving enough time in between installs to see if there is a change in battery usage.

Weird, it doesn't work with mine. It opens but there is nothing displayed. And GSam just force closes immediately. In any event, wouldn't the app drainage effect have been mitigated by my first test in this thread of putting it in airplane mode and leaving it for an hour?

Are you rooted? Cause this app will only work on rooted Nexus 5. I just checked and its will ask for busybox for permission (to load status)
