Power and volume down buttons not working

Hi everyone, so a few days ago, my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 got a little wet, not submerged or anything. So it started acting weird, like opening apps and showing the power off menu all on it's own. So I let it dry out for a few days and now the power and volume down buttons don't work at all. The volume up works though. So I some how got the tab to boot, and now it's stuck in safe mode.
I did a full reset, but the buttons and safe mode issue still exists. Any suggestions of how to fix this issue?
I have tried to hold down the power and volume down buttons, but nothing happens, held them down for 10 minutes and still nothing. If I hold power up for about 30 seconds, the tab restarts, but still nothing solved

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to give it a try, but it was on when it got wet, and has also been charged shortly after.

Yeah, chances are that the damage has already been done. You could try bringing it to a repair shop to replace the buttons, but the problem with water damage is that it can be widespread and unpredictable, so you may also encounter other problems as well.

Yeah, not going to a repair shop. It's a Galaxy Tab 2, so it's pretty old. If I cannot get it working, then time for an upgrade.
Do the buttons come off?
