Android Central Question

Little Old Lady, here- only semi-techie.
Just got a Pixel XL and read somewhere that it takes a special type of power bank. Since I can't change the battery in the Pixel like I could with my G5, this is an issue for me. Can anyone tell me which power banks are compatible with the Pixel XL charging system?

It can use any power bank. I'm still using my 7800mAh microUSB powerbank (with a microUSB-to-C adapter). But to get the fastest charge of the phone, if that's the way you want to use it*, it can be any powerbank that meets the Qualcom QuickCharge 3 (or 4 when they start coming out) standard.

(*I just plug the powerbank into the phone when the battery gets down around 40% and use it that way, so I don't care how long it takes to charge. As long as I'm running AccuBattery [so I don't overcharge it], it doesn't matter.)

Most power banks will work fine, as long as you have the right cable. If you want the full charge speed you'd get from a wall charger (or close) you need one that supports USB-PD over a USB-C connection. However, just because a battery pack (power bank) doesn't support the native port for the device does not mean it won't work, it just won't be as fast.

That said - I have a 15,000 mah Anker Astro E5 that I was using with my Nexus 6p and plan to continue using it with my Pixel 2 XL. It worked fine with my Nexus as well as my old Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and now my Tab S3. I used the USB-A to USB-C cable that came with my 6p to charge the phone off that battery pack, this ensured it was a compliant cable.
