I had a Samsung Galaxy S3 a while back and went back to my iPhone and now back on the Note. I cannot for the life of me remember how to change these things. Google has failed me.

How do I set the screen so it turns on/off only with the power button? I don't want to have the screen lighting up unnecessarily.

Then the alerts. Every single time I open an app the alert will go off. If I download something the alert goes off. How do I stop this?

Also, I have a badge alert for email but not texts. I am using Chomp SMS, but the stock appbdoesnt get the badge either. I do get the noise alert, but no badge.

Lastly, I loved my Do Not Disturb on iPhone. Has Samsung added a feature like this yet?

Thanks in advance!!

I can't answer all your questions but I think I can answer some:

For not having the screen light up unnecessarily you may have air gesture turned on. If you go to settings >> motions & gestures >> air gesture - turn this off.

You could also have it set to listen for a wake up command to turn on. Go into settings >> lock screen >> wake up in lock screen.

There may be others so hopefully some other more experienced android central users will be able to point these out to you.

For the do not disturb try their blocking mode. Go to settings >> blocking mode. You can turn off everything (notifications, led indicators etc) or select what you want off. You can also set periods of time to have this on (for example I set mine for whilst I'm asleep but allow alarms to go off). Within this you can also set allowed people - I have mine set to allow my husband.

Sorry I can't answer the texts/sms question I only use the stock sms app and I get my notifications for that okay.

Good luck and enjoy your note 3 :-)

Sarks.

Hi. Not sure why these defaults are not on.
I can only help with the last two, possibly, but lets get the ball rolling.
I may misunderstand your issues.

Can't think of anything.

Not sure. try Sound- volume - open -sliders

Device - Sound - Samsung applications - Messages - Notifications
