pre order from Samsung

The problem is the T-Mobile sim unlock app was not working for T-Mobile phones bought direct from Samsung.com for the previous releases. Both T-Mobile and Samsung were just blaming each other, apparently the imei info was not in T-Mobile systems for the phones bought from Samsung. Will it be the same for S8? May be or may be not who knows.

I also have a back up order from T-Mobile.com for just in case. I'm trying to find more info on this over the next few weeks and will cancel either the T-Mobile or Samsung.com order based on what I find. I personally don't want to have permanently sim locked phone after paying close to $1000. It's not like I'm moving carrier or traveling regularly to have sim unlocked. I don't keep my phones for long and definitely a big negative for resale if it's sim locked.

I'm trying to find earlier threads about this issue, will post of if I find them.

Interesting. I'm sure Tmobile could unlock it if they really wanted to. Carriers can be a real pain. Heck Verizon removes stuff from their versions of phones. Carriers do anything they please and anything to pinch every penny possible.

One interesting thing is when I bought the unlocked v20 and popped my Tmobile simcard in and downloaded visual voice messaging, somehow it downloaded all the other tmobile bloatware onto my unlocked V20 which I bought so I wouldn't have all the tmobile bloatware. I wasn't thrilled with that.

I ordered mine from Samsung yesterday after a nightmare of a time trying to do it online with T-Mobile. A T-Mobile Midnight black S8+. They have already charged my card and the status now says preparing for shipment. Hope that means it will be here super early!!!!

I guess another perk to ordering directly from them is you don't have to worry about processing for the free VR. it seems that it is already done when you purchase. Hope that also means that it will arrive with the phone also instead of waiting the 6-8 weeks for processing and shipping. We will see though.

It always says that. Like when I got my free promotion last year it was stuck on prepared for shipping for like 3 weeks. However the card being charged so soon hopefully is another good sign but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I ordered from samsung.com instead of T-Mobile but the price is same. Why do you have to talk to useless store reps? You can order from T-Mobile.com for the same $850 + tax and there is no stupid $20 fee or anything else for online orders, that's only if you talk to any clueless reps.

Anyway, my other worry about samsung.com T-Mobile orders is they might be permanently sim locked to T-Mobile since for previous phones bought from samsung.com both samsung and T-Mobile were giving the run around for sim unlocking the phone. Don't want a permanently sim locked phone after paying $1000. Hopefully, that's not the case this time.

I just ordered the T-Mobile S8+ from Samsung.com. This is my first time ordering directly from Samsung. I too don't keep devices. I was unaware of issues with unlocking phone bought from Samsung. If you find out anything let us know.

I ordered from tmobile and I got a date for 4/20 or 4/21 as well. I'm hoping it'll be earlier that week since I always read about people who get their pre-orders early.

Also, one more thing to note from Samsung.com orders is that they charge 15% restocking fee as compared to straight $50 for T-Mobile. So if you are on the fence and there is a chance of return then ordering from T-Mobile is probably better.

Order over the phone or online at T-Mobile, you return via UPS and there's no restocking fee.
