Pre-Orders/Stores that Confirm Availability

If someone at Verizon sells you a Nexus tomorrow, they will eventually be fired. This is strict corporate VZW policy.

It'll also likely ring in at some weird price ($99999 etc.) - you'd have to manually discount the phone, and in doing so, the employee would have broken policy and thus will be fired. It's a pretty logical series of events.

A rep I know tried to sell the Thunderbolt early and was written up for merely suggesting to a customer it may be possible. Further, he was told were he to ever pull another similar stunt, he would be let go immediately, without question (at-will employment states ftw). And he didn't even sell the device; he merely suggested it may be something that would be "possible".

If all it takes is getting someone fired to get the phone tomorrow sign me up... wait that is my craziness about this phone kicking in lol.

I assume the guy who sold one to the guy over on XDA should pack his stuff up. Poor guy.

I have spoken to my friend at Verizon Corporate again, and this is what they said: (Quoted from another topic)

Apparently, the 4G outage was significant enough (with a loss of 2G/3G in some areas) that Verizon isn't taking any chances with another loss of service, especially with such a high profile device coming out. While they were planning on authorizing a "soft launch" of the device sometime tomorrow or Saturday, they're hedging their bets and waiting until next week sometime to launch. While inventory issues have been reported, this isn't 100% the case: they aren't necessarily low on stock, but they don't have a supply worthy of a spectacular launch. Combine this with the partial delay they had originally planned (the "soft launch" sometime within the next 48 hours, followed up with a fully advertised one early next week), they're opting to wait the few extra days until addition stock comes in. This will allow them to monitor the network for any more issues for a few more days, while allowing the stock to be warehoused and distributed sometime on Monday or Tuesday. My friend suggested that most retail stores should have their initial launch stock sometime Tuesday or early Wednesday, with larger stores with existing supplies receiving addition devices due to the projected size of the launch (compounded by the in-store signage following the XYBoard launch) and the approaching holiday sales rush. Finally, the reason why Verizon has not notified it's employees of the projected launch date is due to their own lack of decision on the matter, but be aware that next week is the end of the line for them; baring any show stopping device issues, expect a launch sometime between Wednesday and Saturday of next week, for certain.

Edit: By spectacular launch and limited inventory, I'm referring to a large amount of devices to sell not only in stores, but also online. With the lower than wanted stock numbers, it makes distribution a logistical nightmare, as some stores may not sell many of the phones, while others (in addition to their online orders) may need more inventory than they initially had.

VZW Store Says "No Longer 12/15"

Just called my local VZW store and asked if they had the Galaxy Nexus yet.

Rep told me they were going to launch it on 12/15, but an email from the manufacturer came in and said there were software issues with the phone, so it would be a little later than that. I asked the person to confirm the 12/15 date, and even asked "are you sure it wasn't 12/9?" and they said it was going to be the 15th for sure.

Anyone else hear anything similar from your local stores?

Yup, same thing. Ironically, he asked me if I wanted to preorder the HTC Edge.

I called my local store a few hours ago and the rep told me that it's now supposed to launch on the 15th. Rumor mill is goin wild again :)

I've no idea the chain of command nor the Point-of-Sale system(s) used across agents like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and Premium Retailers (like Cellular One, A Wireless, Wireless Zone, etc.), but I can tell you that on the corporate side, the phone WILL NOT be sold under ANY circumstances until launch day. The POS system used by corporate won't allow it. It doesn't matter your manager codes or who you are. You won't be buying a phone from any corporate location until launch day. Zero exceptions.

Agents may get away with some more blundering than corporate, but ultimately someone will be investigated and held responsible. Verizon is immensely thorough.

When Verizon first took on Alltel markets in their merger a few years ago, they had brought on one manager I knew. Well, he was around for about a year, until Verizon found out he had stolen a list of names from Alltel. He had access to them as a former high up manager at Alltel, so he was calling these people and telling them he could help them port their numbers from Alltel over to Verizon and he would issue a one-time credit of a certain amount as a "thanks" for coming over. Essentially, he was stealing from Alltel, as part of the Alltel-Verizon agreement was to acquire certain customers, but that customer poaching was STRICTLY prohibited in any fashion. This guy was breaking it and using the benefits to increase the amount of "new lines" generated in his store by a huge margin. He had received several VERY big commissions checks (enough so that he made in a few months more than the average American makes in a year) by porting over literally hundreds of Alltel customers to Verizon due to his illegal practices, which again resulted in huge commissions for this manager.

He is now without a career with any company. He'll never have another career, probably, and he's still young (in his 40's). Such a sad way to go. He thought he would get away with it, but Verizon caught it months after he stopped doing it. In Verizon's investigation of the matter, they interviewed nearly every single employee he had worked with to find out who might have known any details about the matter. He wasn't the only person to get fired.

So let's not discredit Verizon's thoroughness. They will NOT let the Galaxy Nexus slip into customers hands unintentionally, and if it does, again, heads will roll and people will be gone immediately and will be prosecuted if possible (yes, Verizon loves to sue the people who once worked for them and were suddenly "promoted to customer" lol).

Verizon employees aren't as dumb as some of them seem - they KNOW what they can and cannot do. They just won't tell you that.

Re: VZW Store Says "No Longer 12/15"

But damnit, I don't want it on my birthday. I want it now!

Well as long as it doesn't go past my birthday...

Re: VZW Store Says "No Longer 12/15"

Re: VZW Store Says "No Longer 12/15"

I have an appointment tomorrow morning to purchase a galaxy nexus. I called my local reseller back to confirm after reading all the reports of further delay. I was assured that I can indeed purchase the phone tomorrow when the store opens. The sales rep said they got an email today at 2pm (central) stating that tomorrow is a "go". Add that to the salty grainy rumor mill. [fingers crossed]

Let us know the minute you get it, or the lame excuse he gives when you don't.
