Okay, so I got my EVO yesterday and I'm coming from a launch day Pre (that I never had to exchange oddly enough)

I've seen a lot of users that have switched over to the EVO so I figure this would be the best forum to get some feedback on.

What have been the best apps, layouts thus far that you've used to adjust to coming from WebOS to Android. Honestly I'm in the middle of getting this customized and feel like I'm starting to just spin my wheels lol.

However I do absolutely love the phone and the OS after 24 hours.

I was in the exact same boat as you, launch day Pre, no return and coming to Android for the first time.

I've had my EVO since 6:00 on launch day and am still learning everything on it, but so far, so good.

Best advice is to search and read every post about ways to conserve battery and find what works best for you.

I continue to be amazed at how fast and smooth the phone is and how everything works so well with everything else. I love it, so far!

Have fun!

Everything for me has relatively easy to figure out so far, any questions I had were quickly answered with a search of the forums. Overall the switch from WebOS to Android has been extremely easy for me, I picked up the phone and I just knew how to get around easy enough.

It may take you a couple of days to stop swiping windows. Trust me. I know.

The first couple of days I was ready to smash my Evo against the wall!

After two weeks, I am enjoying this phone! :D

There are several Android phone owners at my work who gave me tips and this forum has also helped immensely. Each day I learn something new and I can keep on tweaking the Evo to how I need it.

I'll miss my Pre and Webos. It was my first smartphone and and thanks to it, I am now hooked! :p

I agree with all posts.. i was the diest of die hard webos fans, but it was just time to try this phone out.. i can't imagine going back.

a few downfalls for me are
1. i miss the real keyboard, still getting used to typing on the osk, i am getting it, but if i want to write a lengthy reply, it still is a little aggravating.

2. the phone does not have the same level of integration, from contacts to facebook. the contact linking is almost on par with the pre but not the same. i loved the integrated messaging on the pre: google talk, aim, facebook and text all threaded. no where near to that on the evo.
then facebook, depending on where you click a link you are brought to the mobile site, real site, friend stream app or real fb web page.. a little annoying

3. multitasking is obviously not as smooth.

but the one factor that cancels that out is the speed of this phone, never lag, always an instant response. the amount of time you waited for lag on the pre you have already made the extra click on the evo.

oh yea and email on this phone is a massive improvement from the pre.. i email a ton with friends and work. and if i had 20 emails to go through on the pre it was a 20 min sit down attempt to just read them all.. i can realdthrough 20 emails on the evo in 2 minutes.

I thought I'd miss the keyboard of the Pre, but honestly, holding it in landscape view, I can type faster and with more accuracy on the Evo, which I was amazed by. I can't see Swype being any faster for me because I'm flying on this thing. I just miss the notifications from the Pre, and the touchstone, of course.

i haven't really tried landscape.. i am always in portrait..

yea i miss touchstone.. i think notifications are on par with the pre, maybe better.

Dude, I would have a different answer for you every few days (in the beginning, every few hours!). I am CONSTANTLY changing the widgets, backgrounds, launcher panels to something I think is more intuitive or better laid out.

My advice? Play with it. Shortcuts/apps/widgets that don't get used in 3-4 days, just nuke em, and put something else in its place that is more intuitive.

webOS, using the apps and multi-tasking was uber-intuitive, but the launcher screens (and lack of widgets) made things less customizable. With this phone, I'm constantly re-adjusting, and I'm loving it (albeit, missing my card view and "swipe up"... but hey, price to pay I suppose).

yea the first 2 days i changed my layout hourly.. i have had it 4 days now and i think i am finally set on my layout.
main page i have small weather and time widgets, with the banner event calendar underneath. then i have commonly used aps like gmail facebook text, etc underneath. then on that page i have a folder underneath for other apps i use but don't really fit in a category.

then i have friendstream on a page, large favs widget on a page, post it widget on a page, a games/music page (again using a folder for less played games), bookmark page, and a settings page.

Same here, I only owned Palm phones. Sadly my PRE started acting funny last week, so I went into the Sprint store and the lady hooked me up with this EVO. A little getting used to, but this is a great phone. Still trying to break habits & learn about Droid.

Love this phone and OS much better over Pre. The only one thing that bothers me is proper closure of apps once done using. With WebOS, I could simply swipe away apps and never had to worry about them if those are still running in the background. With Android OS, I need to keep worrying about which apps are still running in the background that might slow down the performance of the phone, although I never had a problem with 'not enough memory' errors like Pre...

yea with the pre, iphone and any other non droid phone. out of the box is how you use it, you get used to it and learn to like it. with the droid you have to first figure out how you want to lay everything out and use it yourself, then get used to it.

once you figure out your layout and are ok with it, its 10x better than the pre.

I adjusted to the Pre really, really quickly. The Evo took me a little while to learn, but that's only because you can do SO much with it. But I would assume that would be with any Android device. The OS is just a lot more flexible. WebOs had a LOT of great things going for it, and I do miss the cards. But I just pick up this phone and start tinkering. Don't like this widget? Get rid of it. Move it to another screen. Or go to the 70K+ Android Market and find something more to your liking. And I really need to stop playing with the live wallpaper. It's one of the things people go nuts over when I show then the phone. Someone pulled some of the live wallpaper off of the Galaxy S ... if you haven't seen them, do yourself a favor and take a look. Ocean Waves is beautiful.

You don't have to worry. Even if they're running in the background they're not using CPU. I've finally started to trust Android more and gotten out of apps by backing out and not worrying. And the worry was over nothing.

I just got my EVO on Wednesday, and have not been able to settle on a layout yet. I miss my touchstone terribly, but have adjusted to the back button pretty well.

If only I could settle on a layout, then maybe I could start to enjoy the phone more. I am obsessing over what widgets I need and are available too. The EVO might be TOO much of a good thing!

My wife and I (finally) pick up our EVOs tomorrow afternoon. Will be an interesting weekend after that. We have friends in RI who have had their's for a week. Looking forward to trying out the video chat feature. Time to retire the rickety June 06, 2009 Pre.

I played with an EVO the day after launch ( it belonged to a sales person) and the OS seemed relatively smooth and reasonably intuitive. Didn't seem to be anywhere near as horrible as some were making out in the Pre forums. I don't think it will take me long to adjust at all. Probably the lack of gesture support will be the hardest thing for me to get used to. :)
