Preferred care?

If you never drop or damage it then no.. If you do then yes..

It's a dice roll based on an unknown. I have Fi and they offer $5 a month coverage so I jumped on it. I may never use the policy but it's nice to know that if I damage my phone I'll get a new shiny one to replace it for a nominal fee.

I'm not paying for it. However, if I drop my naked phone on concrete, it would have been totally worth it. Otherwise, waste of money.

I paid for it because I don't usually buy expensive phones and knew I'd be upset if I dropped it and broke it, even though the last phone I dropped and broke was years ago.

Two weeks ago I dropped my Pixel 2 and broke the back glass. The deductible is high, but I'm still glad I have the insurance and a replacement phone!

I just took delivery of my Pixel 2 yesterday and I opted not to get the preferred care.

Hmm, is that a one-time payment of $129? If so, and for the peace of mind, perhaps it would be a good call; especially for a flagship line like the Pixel 2.

It is a one-time charge

Go for it! It'd be worth it to have the peace of mind. I'm normally careful with my phones but if I do indeed go for the Pixel I feel like I'd want that extra bit of protection on my investment.

I've never used it nor ever needed it. I generally use a case tho. I figure over the years I've saved enough to remain self insured in that regard and I'm just going to keep rolling the dice.

I have Preferred Care, and the peace of mind that comes with coverage for accidental damage is well worth it.

Does Google send you a new phone or a refurbished phone when replacing with Preferred Care? And if it is refurbished, can you tell (does the box or phone package mention that it is?)?

Replacement with a refurbished device is pretty much an industry standard.

Agreed. it only makes sense to replace a used phone with a quality refurb. That said, I had my 15 month old Nexus 6 who's speaker suddenly went very low replaced with a brand new in the box with cables Nexus 6 and my Nexus 6P had trouble at 21 months, they replaced it with a Pixel XL. I would not expect a new device, but it's great when it happens. Google has been good with they're extended warranty.

That's what I expected. I was wondering because with the "preferred" name, the upfront cost, and deductible, it potentially would be different. Thanks peeps.

Wow, that's a pretty amazing move on Google's part. Makes me wonder if I should indeed get Preferred Care. Came so close to buying the 2 today haha.
