preparing for OTA gingerbread

I am sorry for the newbiness of this post. I am anxiously waiting the OTA for gingerbread and want to know what I need to do to my rooted and booted phone to get it ready to accept the same.

I am currently on Apex 1.4.0 on 2.2.1. I am a fairly comfortable jacking with my phone, but generally don't know what the hell I am doing (honesty is the best policy here).

I have back up I created prior to going to apex that would be a rooted stock rom. (assuming it is still on my SD card - haven't checked lately). If I load that, should I be able to get the OTA gingerbread?

If so - I'd like to ask to make sure I know how to get that loaded back on my phone. The only thing I have ever loaded is Apex and I haven't switched anything since loading that. So - in fairly plain terms, can someone explain how I would go about loading the stock back up I made?

One I get it loaded do I have to un root? how would I go about that?

If loading that stock rom is insufficient, then what?

I am sure this info is littered throughout the forums. I have searched and come up with several threads that seem on point, but they don't seem to provide enough info (like this one - http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...hacks/73653-preparing-gingerbread-update.html )

And the others I have found speak in a language that I don't totally understand. I think I get the general idea of SBF'ing, but don't know for sure if that is something I need to do. When I read the threads, while it sounds like what I may need to do, I kind of get hesitant, because I am not sure about whether it is the appropriate path for me or not.

so - would someone please have mercy on me and talk to me like a sixth grader - or ignorant old dude - and tell me what I need to do?

someone jump in and correct me if i am off here, but to take the OTA update, i think you are gonna have to sbf back to version 2.3.340. even if you flash back to your stock rom, i believe the fact that you would still be bootstrapped would prevent the update from installing correctly (this is the part im not 100% sure with). you could flash back to your stock rom, unroot, and remove bootstrap privileges, but sbf'ing would be quicker and easier. the only downside is youll have to go back and download all of your apps again. im in the same boat as you though, and ill be using an sbf when the OTA comes out (well, once the OTA gets rooted, anyway)

all applying the sbf file does is restore your phone to it's out-of-the-box state, getting rid of root, bootstrap, deodexing, and anything other hackery that had been done to your device. its essentially formatting your entire phone

From one old "Dude" to another: It can't get any simpler than this:

thank you good sirs. I will place this info in my bookmarks to refer back to when the OTA comes. I really do appreciate your patience and understanding with my lack of same.

I hate it when I have to sbf back. I'm not going for the OTA update, till they have it successfully rooted....just in case Moto pulled a fast one on us, and it can't be.
