Pretty disappointed with the camera

Note* i'm a huge Note fan. I love this phone-i was an iphone girl for ages, then i got the Note 7 and from then on i've had each Note. Aside from the camera i LOVE my phone...

But the camera is super disappointing.

First they took away Sports mode. I was advised to hold the shutter down for rapid pic taking, but its not the same, not even close. See, with Sport mode i could start tapping superfast and the phone would start taking pics superfast-as fast as i could tap, and only when i tapped. It was great for shots of my cat and i got lots of amazing shots.

So they took that away. So hold the button down, right? Well yeah.. but theres a five second delay before the thing starts rapid fire snapping. I cant vary the speed-meaning tap fsst when shes doing something cute, stop when shes not-bc everytime i stop theres that five second lag to start up and i miss whatever she did.
The photos are often blurry, like in a burst of 45 photos 6 will be in full focus and 1 will actually be cute. When i tapped the **** out of the shutter in sports mode i got tons of good shots. When i hold down the shutter to enable burst, i get a bunch of junk.

The photos themselves look out of focus a lot, liquidy and weird. My Note 8 was not like this, at all.

Im probably going to splurge and get myself a real camera for Christmas. I know it is what it is. But its still disappointing.

Still holding out hope that theres a 3rd party app that can mimic sport mode, but i havent found it yet. If anyone knows one pls let me know.

Kitten, those same complaints have been voiced a lot ever since this new camera configuration hit the S9. When I heard the Note 9 was getting the same setup, I was hoping they would get those issues sorted out. Guess not. I wish they just stuck with the cameras used on the Note 8. Got great photo's with that. I only hope it can be fixed with software. I fear it can't be, or won't be.

That sucks the S9 has the same problem. I dont get why take away Spotrs mode, and i know they took away a couple others too. Why take away features millions of people use?

And beyond that, the "liquidy" look... its not even fun to take pics with my phone anymore. :(

C'mon Samsung. Get it together.

I bought the Note 9 and believed it had among the best smartphone cameras available. Have owned Pixl 2 XL and P20 Pro and S9+ before and thought they had tweaked the camera on the Note 9. Instead I got the worst of all above. It freezes and gives me blurry pictures and something that often reminds me about a painting. Now I use the Xs Max camera instead as it is so much better than my Note. Hope Samsung fixes this, got the update that was said to have camera fixes but it didn’t get any better so I don’t have high hopes

Outdoor pix are pretty good with the Note 9 camera, but definitely missing Sports mode too for mostly indoor pics of my dog and kids. My old S8+ did fine with those shots with Sports mode.

I agree burst mode doesn't help at all with these shots, and trying different settings with Pro mode doesn't help either (too dark, or too grainy).

Hoping the next update with camera update does something here, or else they bring back some of those settings.

Picture quality is one of the primary reasons I sold the Note 9 ... I found I was disappointed with the results more often than I was happy with the results. Most of my shots are indoors of pets and kids and I was getting blurry, pixilated/water-color-looking shots that, depending on the lighting, had a yellowish tint to them.

I'm not having any issues on mine either, but would like to be able to download sport shot and some others.

For me the cameras been magnificent. I guess they got my cameras configuration and calibration right on my phone in the quality control department.
No issues at all.
Crossing my fingers now.

Sports mode is still available. I use it pretty often. Given the faster lens on the camera, it works really well for indoor shots. You have to download it though. Go to Camera Settings, Edit Camera Modes, Rear Camera. Be sure to scroll down. It's last on the list.

The sports mode, surround shot and selfie beauty mode APK's will all install ok but there is no option to use them in camera settings, there was on the Note 8,
but my camera seems to be taking very good photos right now anyway so I'm not too bothered.

I haven't touched sport mode since manual controls were introduced on the S6. To my knowledge it just upped the ISO and increased shutter speed over the usual auto to reduce motion blur.

Tested it on my S7 to see if it's even worth having installed, it takes the ISO up to 2500, auto won't go past 2000 even in a pitch black room, and manual is limited to 800.

So I guess in the right situation still worth having, sucks Samsung got rid of it.
