Pretty nasty bug with my Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner, need help.

My finger print scanned into the software just fine but I couldn't get it to work to unlock the phone. Had to use the password to get in and disable teh fingerprint thingy. I won't be using it.

If I know Sammy they will fix any bugs soon they just want to get it right just give them some time

phone been working for a month or so and worked fine. all of sudden i hit the exact same problem as you described. Im not sure if i should reset and setup my phone all over again or to try getting a replacement in case its faulty .

Fixed it with a factory reset. Cant wait. Sammy to slow to update / provide patch.
Happened to me after 3 weeks of using. Hope this time it'll last longer.
Confirm it is not hardware issue, at least for me it isn't. :)

I had this problem after one month buying my phone. It is a contracted phone.I did the factory reset. At the beginning it worked then it failed again and again. So I decided to take it to m carrier which I purchased my phone by contract. They told me they can't do anything I need to take it to the Samsung.I went to Support Center and they told me that they can't open it.So I called the Samsung Support Center and they sent me a bag.I put my phone and sent it back.Almost one week later they sent my phone with a letter. In this letter ,it is written that one of the engineer has diagnosed the fault and completed a successful repair. However they didn't mention what the problem was.The problem is fixed at the end.I realised that when I shake the phone( I found out accidentally) there is a sound coming from the phone inside. It sounds like something is loose. It is really irritating to have these kind of problems. It is a new phone.I called the Support Centre again. The guy made me wait for a while and then he said I let the technical department know and they are going to call me in 2 days and no news from them.Besides their Quality Team checked the phone after it was repaired. How come they can't realise it.I really regret to buy a phone from Samsung.

The rattle you hear is from the camera. I read it somewhere in the forums and did more research on it. I'm not 100% sure what it is called at the moment.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using AC Forums mobile app

I had fingerprint scanning running on my phone for over a month and working great until the exact same thing happened to me.

I do like the feature, so I'm confused as to what suddenly made it go bad. The most annoying part is the alternate password not working in the app to change/turn off the feature.

I did find I can change to another lock method, but would rather get it fixed.

Love the phone otherwise. Problems happen. :-)

On the locked home screen click Alternate Password option and enter incorrect passwords multiple times. Click cancel after unsuccessful attempts. On the home screen you will find an option to unlock the phone with google account. Use that to unlock the phone and you will be redirected to the Lock Screen settings of the phone. Select any other option to lock the phone like swipe or number lock.

Thanks. Saved the day!

Maybe related, maybe not...I'm noticing, seemingly...after a few "incorrect" swipes if I do them off angle, etc that my phone decides to toggle from sound to vibrate to mute mode, back and forth a couple of times. Anyone ever encounter this?

Just for no reason the finger-print scanner no longer appears on my lock screen and had to reset on line a new alterative password to unlock the phone. Several attempts to activate the print scanner resulted in my having to repeat the same process. I really liked that feature. I have other issues with other apps not working well as well. I could have saved a fortune on Galaxy 3 that I never had a problem with other than needing to change the battery 3 times a day. Issues like this could kill Samsung. I hope they realize this and come up with a fix real fast.

Still not fixed, it seems. I've had my S5 for 3 weeks today and just about 20 minutes ago my scanner stopped working. The only thing new is I finally got around to put a screen protector on, but that isn't even touching the scanner.

I have the exact same problem, happened a couple of weeks after getting the phone, it's been months now and it's still not fixed. Not a massive problem as I've switched to a password lock instead, but it's really annoying that it no longer recognises my finger and rejects my alternative password.

There is no solution other than exchanging for a new phone. My first S5 had the same problem. Factory reset will not fix it. Go and swap your phone out now.

Apple has the same problem with their finger print scan. I quit using it...

same thing happened to me... except i had saved pictures already under the private mode and to go private mode you gotta unlock using fingerprint scanner and so my pics are lost... i want to recover them but don't know how. Factory reset didnt work for others so i dont wanna do that. I was told by a t-mobile employee to get a new phone under the warranty and its free of charge. They have to mail you the new phone but you keep your current phone until the new one arrives so that is what im gonna do... i still like the phone but the finger print problem needs to be fixed ASAP :(

I have had my S5 for 3 weeks with the same darn problem. So frustrating and annoying! Thanks for your tipmy fingerprint scanner is now removed

Hey i just fixed it its been working fine for me now.OK what you have to do is shut down your phone and then wait at least a minute and then when youre about to reboot it hold the home key and then reboot it and keep holding it until it reboots and if it still doesn't work repeat the process it took me two tries I wish you good luck

I just downloaded the app for PayPal and went to link my fingerprint and it wouldn't take it, I tried and tried and on top of that it would kick me out making me sign in every time! What ever it is it now made its way to the Samsung app I believe.
