Preview of text msg on lock screen?

when I check my phone, I would like to see a preview of the text msg on the lock screen. I don't want to always unlock my screen and pull down the notification menu to see my text msgs.

Is there a way?

If you're using the stock app ... go to its settings, then notifications, from there you can select pop-up display, and lock screen and/or status bar under the "preview message" section.
