Price RUMOR About New Nexus 7

I looked while at work work last week and the computer is showing two new sku's I've not seen before for the Nexus 7. One 16gb and one 32gb model, priced at $239 and $269.

That sounds about right. A $20 price bump seems about right for the added features. I definitely don't see a $50 bump. That's not how Google makes its profits.

It's really hard to tell. Maybe a month or less? Sometimes things come in to the SKU system, and we never see the item though. I think it is put in there in case we get a return from our online site, which carries many more items than in store.

Gotcha ..... Thanks.

that is the only place that I have seen that claim. I wouldn't put much stock in it since the price point is the biggest selling point for the Nexus 7. Google makes a ton of money from the app/music/video purchases once you buy the device, so they don't need to mark up the hardware sales.

Google makes no money and may even lose a little money from Nexus anything sales and they make very little money from Google Play at all especially compared to Apple. Nexus exists to get an unadulterated Google Android experience out there and the sold at cost Nexus 7 and 10 are an attempt to get Android tablet sales going. Hasn't worked though. The iPad Mini sold dramatically more, most likely because Android tablets apps are very few and low quality especially for a 10 inch. The Nexus 7 basically runs upscaled smartphone apps. The screen is too small for me but at $199 I have bought three of them to give as gifts.
Sure would be nice to see a new nexus phone and 10" Nexus tablet announced net week and this time have someone besides Samsung make the 10 inch model.

You can install roms like Cyanogen Mod on the Kindle and have a pretty nice cheap tablet.

If you buy the Kindle you can say goodbye to the Android app store. The Kindle runs a forked version of Android and you must get all of your apps from Amazon. The Kindle is a good e-reader that can do some tablet stuff well. It is not a full fledged tablet.

<$230 for a 32Gb N7 and I'm in otherwise I'll take a slightly inferior screen res and a microSD card on an Asus Memo 7 HD for $150. At $280 an N7 is playing with fire from Cupertino....

The article mentions $100 price jump, but also states that the Nexus 7 2 will come with 32GB of storage. If those are the official specs, then it's only a $50 price jump. The current 32GB Nexus 7 was selling for $249, prior to the recent drop in price in order to sell off the current units. I paid $249 for mine last year. I would have definitely payed $50 more to get a rear camera, more RAM, HD screen, and faster processor. $299 sounds about right if most of the hardware is high end.

16GB more storage is not worth a $100 price jump.

I think they are just tired of throwing money away on Tablets.

And if developers actually developed decent Android Tablet apps (including Google, putting a smartphone interface on their 7" tablet FFS) they wouldn't have to burn so much money to sell them.

Players like Amazon and Barnes and Noble can afford to sell at a loss because they are content distributers on a completely different level to Google. Also, the N7 can't even hold a candle to a Kindle or Nook tablet for eReading. It isn't even a competition there. Those products are aimed at completely different market segments. It's like comparing an iPod Touch to an iPhone.

B&N, not Google, is the one getting out of the tablet business.

Haha b&n have been out of the tablet business for years now. They may still make and sell them, but that doesn't mean people buy and use them. Especially with the marketing giant as their main competition.
