I looked while at work work last week and the computer is showing two new sku's I've not seen before for the Nexus 7. One 16gb and one 32gb model, priced at $239 and $269.

Agreed. I hope this is a sign we will be seeing something soon!
It's really hard to tell. Maybe a month or less? Sometimes things come in to the SKU system, and we never see the item though. I think it is put in there in case we get a return from our online site, which carries many more items than in store.
So I'm linking here to a new news report that cites a rumor that the new Nexus 7 will cost $300 instead of $200. I'm skeptical about the validity of this rumor, but if it's true then I will probably opt for the new Kindle Fire HD instead. Here is the link:
Nexus 7 2 Launch Pegged for Late July
that is the only place that I have seen that claim. I wouldn't put much stock in it since the price point is the biggest selling point for the Nexus 7. Google makes a ton of money from the app/music/video purchases once you buy the device, so they don't need to mark up the hardware sales.
If you buy the Kindle you can say goodbye to the Android app store. The Kindle runs a forked version of Android and you must get all of your apps from Amazon. The Kindle is a good e-reader that can do some tablet stuff well. It is not a full fledged tablet.
The article mentions $100 price jump, but also states that the Nexus 7 2 will come with 32GB of storage. If those are the official specs, then it's only a $50 price jump. The current 32GB Nexus 7 was selling for $249, prior to the recent drop in price in order to sell off the current units. I paid $249 for mine last year. I would have definitely payed $50 more to get a rear camera, more RAM, HD screen, and faster processor. $299 sounds about right if most of the hardware is high end.

16GB more storage is not worth a $100 price jump.
I think they are just tired of throwing money away on Tablets.
And if developers actually developed decent Android Tablet apps (including Google, putting a smartphone interface on their 7" tablet FFS) they wouldn't have to burn so much money to sell them.
Players like Amazon and Barnes and Noble can afford to sell at a loss because they are content distributers on a completely different level to Google. Also, the N7 can't even hold a candle to a Kindle or Nook tablet for eReading. It isn't even a competition there. Those products are aimed at completely different market segments. It's like comparing an iPod Touch to an iPhone.
