So, I've lived with the Thunderbolt for a week now, and I'm thinking that I'm going to return it and wait for the Bionic. This has less to do with the Thunderbolt and more to do with the Bionic.

The Bolt is a great phone, don't get me wrong, but I think I'll be happier with the Bionic over the long haul. I know a lot of people have been ragging on the battery of the Bolt, but it really isn't the worst I've ever used. (and it definitely isn't the reason I want to return it)

The biggest thing holding me back right now is the lack of clarity when it comes to the 4G plans, and whether the Bionic will get unlimited 4G as well. I don't care much about mobile hotspot, so losing that isn't a big deal to me.

Thoughts?

I am in the same boat as you, however I have not purchased the Tbolt yet. My main concerns are the unlimited data pricing and build quality. I am under the impression that the Bionic is plastic similar to the Nexus S. This concerns me for durability reasons and heat dissipation with the 4G signal searching. I did receive the $149 offer to upgrade, that is also weighing on me. I may buy and if I want to change just buy a new device off contract.
I feel like a kid just arriving to a theme park, too many options and variables!!!

The Bolt is plastic too. It definitely has some weight so it feels great in hand, but it is all plastic, so don't let that be the reason why. (the back of the Bionic is also going to be soft touch, so it should feel way better than the Nexus)

If you're on the fence, I'd say just wait until the Bionic comes out. You can't know until you've held it in your hand.

Both phones are great phones. But I will just give the edge to the Bionic because Dual Core and Quad Core are the future. The Bolt has a Metal casing so it is not all plastic. If you want to see how the bionic will feel. visit AT&T and mess around with the Atrix. That is how I made my decision to make the Bionic my next phone. I messed around with the Bolt and I still like the speed and smoothness of the Atrix better. it just performed better in my opinion then the Bolt.

Hey, that's a great idea! I've got an AT&T store 3 minutes from my house.

Since AT&T is going to be bigger than Verizon any thinking about switching and getting the Atrix. Just kidding. I am going to wait for the Bionic, sold my fascinate, returned my TBolt and now sporting a BB 8330 until the Bionic comes out. Please hurry Verizon!!!!!

Have you thought of getting The Galaxy S2?

We won't know until the Bionic is released how it will perform -- Atrix has double the ram. CES reviews said Bionic was LAGGY - could be do to beta software etc.. but could be what we will see when its released due to ram etc...

If you don't need 12+UP (LTE) speed TODAY and can wait until June/July or --- then by all means wait for the Bionic. There is no need to buy anything if you are not in need of the features it offers. I need LTE Today - therefore got a TBOLT and will seriously consider the Bionic when its released.

I Too have had the Thunderbolt for a week already and I have got to say that nothing beats LTE speed. This phone is incredible, but I also was thinking about returning it and waiting for the Bionic. The battery life I can live with especially since i can get turn off 4G and run 3G just fine on it to save power. Seidio Innocel has a 1600 mah slimline battery that wont add bulk so thats always an option. The only thing I might not be too happy with is the Display, colors seem a little washed in comparison to every other soon to be released LTE phone on verizon. As for the Bionic my only question is the 512 mb of RAM copared to the Bolt's 768 mb. Could this be a problem with multitasking numerous apps at once?

Don't get hung up on the amount of RAM. The Bionic has DDR2 RAM which will be faster than that in the Thunderbolt. How this plays out in the device as far as speed is yet to be seen (although the Atrix has DDR2 RAM as well, but has 1GB vs. 512MB in the Bionic). But the point is that you can't just compare the amounts between these devices to say one is better than the other.

No one knows the ram answer. IMO returning the TB and paying your restocking fee is silly since we all knew 1400 was not enough juice. Battery will be addressed by third party in time. Having 12 plus down for what may be four months wait on the moto....all depends on your needs today.

Four months?

End of April/beginning of May max.

Phone that we buy are a investment for the next year or two we have them and we want it to perform the way it is promise to perform. My friend for example bought the phone hoping that the Battery problem was fixed. He had the Evo 4G with Sprint. He suffered with the battery. He feels that a phone should last an whole day and he likes the sleekness of the phone. Adding a extended battery will make it bulky. With the extended battery you can not put it in a docking station or the car Dock. So he returned it. At my local Verizon as of yesterday it has been 15 returns of the Thunderbolt so far. Some opted for the DX or the Incredible or just decided to wait on the Bionic the rep told me. So I don't think it is crazy. I am using a Storm 1 now. I was looking at the TB but knowing their history with battery life I just decided to wait for the Bionic. It is the better phone.. Now I am hearing April from the Panda and my contact in Cooperate office. But things can change. If they hold it off until June there is a better chance of it have 2.4 on it. It will still be 2ndQ as they said but at the end of it.

I figured I would share the reason I am skipping the Tbolt and waiting for the Bionic. Please don't hate on it, this is totally IMO:

One reason it is not, is Sense. I currently have an Incredible and LOVE the Sense. I am sad to be leaving it honestly, but the truth is with Launcher Pro Plus and Dialer One, and Beautiful Widgets, I will be able to move on without it.

It isn't design. Personally, the HTC designs are extremely sexy IMO and they feel very solid. I love my Incredible and my friends that have most other phones (except the Droid X) are jealous of how great it feels in the hand.

It isn't the speed of dual core either. The Incredible is FAST. I have seen a lag MAYBE 5 times since I bought the phone back in May and I am constantly running multiple apps and use the device constantly. I honestly don't think I would notice any speed increase because you can't get faster than instant.

No, the reason I am officially leaving HTC is battery. I have spent over $100 on accessories for the Incredible, rooted it, changed kernals to what was ultimately the best, and the battery is still not what I need. If I use the 1800 slim I do not through my entire day. I get through the work day, but not going out with friends after. Not unless I bump charge it in the middle. If I use the 2750 battery, I get through ALMOST a full day and night, but if it is a heavy usage night, I don't. Not to mention, what good is it buying a sexy phone if I am going to slap on a huge battery pack that makes it look awkward in my dress slacks.

The other catch is that in order for these batteries to work effectively, I must do the famous "HTC Bump". I used to use my phone as my alarm clock. It was extremely reliable and NEVER failed. Since buying the Incredible, I now have to use an alarm clock that does sometimes fail on me. When I go to sleep, I plug in my phone. I have that alarm wake up 30 minutes before I normally get up, unplug my phone, turn it off, and plug it back in. Then sleep for the remaining 28 minutes until my real alarm goes off. I take my usual 30 minutes to get ready, unplug my phone, turn it on as I am leaving.

For those who don't know, HTC phone's seem to have a problem where they think they are fully charged when they aren't. In order to trick them into "fully" charging for real you must do what I said above. HTC knows this problem and recommended this solution. G-d forbid almost a year later, they fix it. Nope.

Motorola however charges fine, gives a bigger battery by default then my slim battery, AND fixes problems in their phones as fast as they can (for real instead of pretending). To me, this means the world and is my only reason for caring so much about the Bionic. Never again shall I "bump" charge and I shall reclaim by 30 minutes of sleep every morning!

Thank you for listening. haha

Picked up a Thunderbolt; so far it's okay. I have 14 days to test drive this bad buy (wish it was still 30 days). Think I might return it before those days are up, especially if the Bionic comes late April. I defiantly want my hands on the Bionic more than the Thunderbolt to be honest. We'll see how this plays out.

The video AC posted about the hands-on with gingerbread for the droid x that was just posted shows the updated moto-blur that is going to be on the bionic. It looks promising.

It does. It looks freaky fast. It also fixes a LOT of the problems with Blur.

Not after having the Galaxy S

Have you thought of getting The Galaxy S2?

The Galaxy S is a great phone but I should not have had to root to experience 2.2. I have gone back to stock and am watching Motorola get 2.3.3. well I sit at 2.1 I like Moto's updated Blur and really has been the only phone I have not tried out.
