So I thought I would try to root my phone. I have version ls670zvj. from every thing I read I thought I had to go back to version zvd before I could do any thing else. I downloaded the zvd zip file and followed the instructions. Something didn't go right. I still show I'm on version zvj. I can still use the phone but I can't get anything to save to the sd card. Not sure what I did wrong. Sorry if I'm using wrong terminology but I have never done this before. I was hoping to get the phone rooted and load the hydro rom. I was looking mainly to free up some of the phones limited internal memory. Can someone tell me what I may have done wrong.

Thanks

I had the same problem, I believe you're supposed to clear and wipe both data and dalvick AFTER installing the update from the recovery menu.

Looks like my phone doesn't have to be reset after all. I have been able to save applications to the sd card. I just have to save them twice for some reason. The first time I try it fails but when I move them the second time they do save.

Glad your phone is ok. I'm not sure why it's doing that with your apps but I seem to remember it happening to mine a while back. I can't remember what rom I was running or anything though.

For future reference, if you do need to factory reset your phone you can get to recovery by turning the phone off, then holding home+vol up+power at the same time until after it flashes the LG logo. Then choose 'wipe data/factory reset'.

Are you still wanting to root zvj or did you kinda give up?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. This phone was free from Kroger on their Iwireless service through Sprint. I thought I would try it. It's cheaper then what I'm paying now and it's pay as you go. I still have my account with my other carrier. Can't cancel that until next March. My HTC Inspire broke so I was using this until I was eligible for an upgrade. I had insurance on it but there is a $150 deductible. Not sure if I will do the insurance again. I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate yesterday to try from AT&T. It was only $30 but of course I have to extend my contract for another 2 years. Decisions, Decisions !

I found the guide to a little obnoxious myself, I think we need a post for EACH baseband.

To REVERT to ZVD
1. Go to Settings->About Phone, verify that your phone is indeed an LG LS670 (Optimus S) Not V

2. Back up data you don't want to lose. (i.e. move it to the SD Card) Use Astro, ES File manager, etc.

3.Download Phone USB Driver for phone from Here.

4. Plug your phone into the computer.

5. Pull down the status bar, and click the USB connected status. When the screen comes up it should be GREEN, press the button to turn on USB Storage Mode.

6. Download the Sprint Official ZVD Update.zip at the link. Copy to the root of your SD Card (As in, don't put it in a folder). Do NOT UNZIP, or RENAME the file.
Sprint ZVD Update

7. Hold Down The Power Button and turn the phone completely off.

8. Hold down the Home, Volume Down, and then The Power key all at the same time. Keep holding until the initial LG logo appears, and then the phone will enter recovery mode.

Note: DO NOT attempt this step if you do not have the LG Stock recovery

9. Select install Update.zip from sdcard. Wait for it to finish. Do it again, then clear the cache, and restore factory settings.

10. Reboot the phone.

11. Do not install any OTA updates if the phone prompts you

12. Go to Settings->About. Verify ZVD Baseband, and that you have a signal. If not repeat steps 9 and 10.

13.Connect your phone to the computer again

14. On the phone go to Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging, and turn the USB Debugging ON.

15. Check that phone has USB storage DISABLED, (i.e. Green, not Orange)

16. Temporarily Disable your antivirus, (most give you the option for 1 hour, or until reboot) YES you have to do this step, if it makes you nervous then turn back now.

17. Download this file to your desktop, yes it has a virus, that's how the root works. OptiAutoSFX.exe

18. Run the file, and choose option A, and follow the on screen instructions. The program says that it might take more than one try, but it has worked on the first try for me every time on ZVD.

19. when completed the program will reboot your phone, and when it reloads you should have root. Check this by looking for superuser as an installed application, and run it. It will report whether it is successful. If not repeat steps 14 -18.

20. This will have a rooted stock ROM. I recommend Quattrimus CM9, or HydroROM for stability. They have their own instructions for install.

It's not like this is hard to determine, if it says virgin mobile at the top of the phone, its a V, if it says Sprint, its an S.

I hate to burst your bubble, but we have numerous dedicated threads for reverting and upgrading and such. Only two basebands are relevant at this point, and now that the zvj/zvd patch has been developed (by nitestalkr I believe), baseband doesn't matter at all. The long instructions you posted are almost identical to the rooting sticky posted right next to the welcome guide that you so rudely dissed (which took quite a lot of work on epidenimus's part, and is the first place we direct new members), and you linked to sfhub's rooting tool without credit to him or linking to his thread (which is theft of intellectual property).

For us simpletons and newbie's step by step instructions we could print out and follow would be nice. I'm a visual person that does like to have instructions when I do something new. It would be easier then getting information from numerous threads.

I have same issue
