I downloaded the latest Gala X Rom from rom manager and I chose to download all the extras that come with it. I successfully ran the bootstrapper and then tried to install the gala rom zip. What I get when I try to do this

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.6
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I'm running 2.2 OTA, could that be the problem?

I've never flashed a rom before (just installed themes), so can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

are you installing it from rom manager, or are you booting into recovery and trying to install the zip yourself?

Sounds like you're not deodexed. I'm pretty sure you need to be.

Also, GalaX is a theme, not a ROM.

I am deodexed, I'm using the Droid928 Black Glass theme right now. Should I go back to original and try again.

I've tried doing it from ROM manager and tried doing it manually.

maybe try rerunning the bootstrap and flashing clockwork?

i remember running into this error before, but for the life of me can't think of the solution right now.. :(

the zip would still flash over if they weren't deodexed, you just get stuck at the m logo at boot...

could you maybe walk me through exactly what I should do from start to finish? I just feel like there is something I'm missing or something I'm doing that I shouldn't be doing.

1. download and install the bootstrap application
2. open the bootstrap app and click the first icon (make sure you get a success)
3. close bootstrapp
4. download, install, and run rom manager
5. flash your recovery
6. download rom
7. click on onix concepts
8. select the gala x theme and click download
9. choose the options you want and click ok
10. when the rom finishes downloading it will ask you if you want to wipe data/cache and also backup the current rom.

DON'T wipe data and cache, but it might be a good idea to backup your rom (unless you've done this recently and don't want a backup)

11. when you click ok, the phone should reboot into recovery and flash the zip and then boot back into the OS.

that should do it. there was an update to gala x released so i typed that as i updated my theme, so i don't think anything is missing :)

Does the update make it do you don't get duplicate text meshes anymore?

Sent from my DROID X using my fingers!

Well, after getting it to work I noticed I get the same text messages twice in handcent and once in the regular message app even though I have notifications turned off.....also the GMail app doesn't work for me, every time I try to open my mail it force closes. I really like the look of the theme but it's just not gonna work out for me at this time. Thanks to anyone who helped me in this thread, I now have a better understanding on how to do this procedure.

2 text messages solution:

using root explorer (or something similar, i just find this the easiest way)
1. navigate to /system/app
2. change to R/W (button at the top corner)
3. delete "mms.apk"
4. change to R/O

done :)

as for the gmail thing, what worked for me was to update the gmail app via the market.

it's in the market for a dollar or two (supports the dev that is part of the few that as made the little customization we have possible for our phones)

you can also get it (for free) on his site: My Brain Hurts

i thought this was supposed to have a transparent pull down notification bar.. mine is solid grey.. anyone get the transparent pull down?

Tried this and it worked. You have yet to steer me wrong. Thanks.
