Problem transferring texts from S9+ to S21 Ultra

Sometimes developers have to wait to see final release of Mac OS to really begin updating.
Sometimes there are bugs that Spoke needs to fix that are the holdup.
Changes in permission. Changes in disk access. Some things are waiting on 11.2 now which should drop "soon, any day now."

I tend to find with those yearly system releases it's March or February before it is really ready. A dot two or three version.

Compounded by new Samsung 3rd party which came early this year. Apple has been busy with getting M1 support.

Big Sur has had a rocky start

Just wish there was an easy way to figure out what to delete on my new phone so the transfer will work without a factory reset...

I never liked how Google back up messages worked on Samsung phones, if you can get a windows pc use smart switch to back up it and then transfer the messages , it will be a lot less painful.

I don't think the problem is the backup - I think it may be something that is now on the new device. If I only back up messages with SmartSwitch and try to load them I think I will have the same result...

Can I use Smart Switch or something to delete the text data on the new phone? So that I am restoring to a clean app...?

I think your problem it the transfer , smart switch you did with a wire between devices but transfer from textra not Samsung message app something there didn't go well , you have to remember it's a 3rd party app and not native so you can encounter issues when trying to restore, the issue most people don't consider is smart switch app between phones is a one time deal., there no restore point like you have with smart switch on a windows pc otherwise you'll have to factory reset and try again and to me that can be all avoided using pc version .

To clarify, you think I should factory reset and then use Smart Switch on a PC...are you then saying to use textra for the transfer or not? Should I switch my default message app on the old phone to Samsung messages? Do I need to delete the Textra app?

You don't need to delete textra just change to Samsung message app and make it default on old phone then back up.on smart switch on pc then connect your s21 and choose restore only message and then open textra on the s21 and use as default.

I had this same issue with my text not transferring to my new phone. I dont know if it was textra or sms backup or even Samsung. All i know was i went from a Galaxy s5 to an S7 and some of my messages were messed up or didnt load from the back up. I deleted some messages because i thought i had too many. or clearing cache, deleting and reinstalling, wiping data, factory reset nothing worked. I moved on.

From my s7 to s9 i didnt use textra or sms backup anymore but it already left it mark on my messages because they still wont come through completely. Ive backup up my messages through google now and smart switch but everytime it gets to the messages part it takes super long and stalls. even though i dont have that many text and more. I have it to delete at 200.

Now im going to the s21 afrom my s9 and the messages still wont completely back up, stalling. it took 15min to get to 27% on smart switch back up and then just stalled at 40% and 20 minutes went by. I deselected messages and did a back on smart switch again took 8 minutes total for everything on my s9 to back including 7 gigs or videos and 6 gigs of music and everything except messages.

When i got my s21 i just connected the USB -C to C and did the transfer of everything that way and surprise surprise everything including messages transferred except some gifs and pictures but i didnt download in messages so they didn't stick.

Its just been weird. I bet if i went to backup my s21 in smart switch now it would stall with messages. I dont know what happened but whatever. I hope you get it all figured out.

Yea, it updated when i open smart switch on the Pc, and went into settings to make sure there wasnt any more updates. Im just convinced something with textra or sms backup happened a long time ago that causing issues for sms. Like one of those string of characters that could reboot your device. I think something got messed up along the way.

It's alright i moved on.

I think so...? I backed up my s9 but I'm not sure which was the default text app...think it was stock message app. Done so many backups and restores I can't remember anymore!!

I'm waiting for the system to organize my transferred data...trying not to jinx it!
