Problem with black screen

Every once in a while or several times a day a black screen pops up out of nowhere with a clock email and other icons on it. It does not even stay up long enough to find out where it could possibly come from. Does anyone know what it is or how to get rid of it? I have tried to uninstall apps and its still there. I took out the battery put it back in rebooted and it still happens. It is very annoying. I hope someone has an answer for me. Thanks a bunch.
