problem with mail notification on lockscreen

I have a question about the mail app. On my home screen there are no badges because i have no new mail. However when i go to my lock screen instead of no badge on the mail app i have a (-2). I have tried to clear badgeprovider in application settings. This works for a couple minutes, but the -2 returns on the lock screen shortcut. Interestingly if i get a new mail the -2 badge will change to -1. Is there a way to fix this?

Try force stopping the email app and clearing the cache

From an earlier thread...

I've seen this happen when you delete the same message multiple times before it is moved to the trash folder. Deleting the account then syncing up again should solve it.
