Problem With No Notification For Texts

I have a Galaxy Note 5, 64 GB, ATT network, Model N920A6. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to notify me when I receive a text. When I first got it about 2 months ago, it was bought second hand, from another carrier. I spoke with a tech on my carrier (ATT) and after getting a new card, they helped me to set it up. I can't remember where on the phone settings, but I had to go in and type in certain codes because they said my model did not show up on the ATT Network and it would have to be set up as a generic Smartphone. I am wondering if this is the problem, and if so, is there a way to get around it, such as going back in to whatever menu they directed me to, and recoding it for the ATT Carrier Network as a Galaxy Note 5? Anyway, I get texts from my Wife and Kids all the time and don't know about it.

I fixed the problem. I do not know if it was following the instructions to clear my cache, or if it was the fact that I deleted my newer message app, and went back to the Samsung Message app that was provided on my galaxy note 5. Either way, I now am getting notification when I get a text message, and it also is reminding me by sound and vibrate when I do not read the new text. So, for me, problem solved. (I had read on another site, another thread, that someone else had a similar problem and that even though they selected the newer Message app to be the primary one, it seems the Samsung App and the newer Message App may have been "fighting" each other, and once the newer App was removed, and the Samsung set up as default and primary, the problem was resolved. So I took that hint and it worked for me.)
