Problems updating to 1.4.1

I have a nook color running the 1.3 firmware, and have CM7 with Phiremod's dual boot u-boot.bin file on the sd card.

I like the native software on the Nook for reading, so I use it more than I use the android. As far as I know, I have done nothing to change the nook root. I am unable to update to the 1.4.1 firmware.

Walking through the update process, I power off, remove the SD card, and reboot. The Nook looks normal. I connect by USB to my computer, and copy the 1.4.1 firmware zip to the root of the Nook, and disconnect from the computer safely. The Nook reboots on its own, and I get a "Read Forever" Nook logo as usual, then I see an android logo in landscape with a progress bar. Next, I get a triangle with an exclamation point in it. I press the power button once, and I see (in landscape):

ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.1
-reboot system now
-apply update from SD card (but there is no SD Card in the Nook-it's on my desk)
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sd card
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced

ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.1

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

That is because somehow during the process of making your CM7 card you installed CWR on the Nook's internal eMMC, replacing the stock recovery program. You have to restore the stock recovery program.

I have the file, but I'm not sure I understand exactly what to do next. If I just boot the nook without my Android SD card installed, I boot into the nook firmware.

So, I guess I should put the zip file on the root of the Android SD card and boot into recovery in Android, and follow the instructions then. Or do I boot into recovery with the android sd card in, remove it, put in a blank sd with the file on it, and go forward from there? I just want to be sure before I screw things up again.

Thanks for your help, and your patience.

If you have a blank card with this file on it, your only option is to boot into the Nook software. Do that and then choose reboot into recovery. Then install the file.

OK, I powered off the Nook color, put a fresh SD card in the slot with the CW-removal.zip file in it, powered on, and it booted into the regular nook software. There was no option to boot into recovery.

I could try to add the firmware update, and then when it reboots, it goes into recovery. Is that what I should try next?

It will always boot straight into the Nook software initially. Hold the power button like you do to shut down but choose boot into recovery instead.

When I try to do that, my nook initially turns on, I get the Read Forever Logo, and the nook then turns off. I don't get an option to boot into recovery. I also tried to get into the recovery by attempting to install the 1.4.1 update as above. I was able to get into the recovery program, and toggle to the install from zip file on the SD card. The verification failed, and the install aborted.

What next? Is it time to wipe the whole thing? I hate to do that, but I will if that's the only alternative.

Once again, I really appreciate the help.

Then I can only suggest a complete restore. Use WinImage to create a bootable card with CWR.

CWR 3.2.01. is found here: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Then out a copy of the stock 1.3 .zip on the root of the card. 1.3 can be found here: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Note, do not choose the Megaupload site for the download.

Boot the Nook from the card and wipe format cache, system, data and Davlik (under advanced). Then choose install .zip from SD Card (not update). When finished, remove the card and reboot.

Just for follow up, I'll let you know what happened next. I forgot and left the nook wireless on for a while, and it again downloaded the 1.4.1 update. It rebooted, and hung again, but this time I toggled off the verification, and tried to install the CWM removal program. It seemed to install successfully, but hung at the "n" screen on reboot. My nook was now unusable, as I couldn't reboot into anything (I didn't try the Android sd card, as I was away from home and didn't have it with me.)

I next followed patruns's instructions to start from scratch, and I was able to get it back. Interestingly, even though I said "format \data", all my books (all unprotected epub files in the "My Files/Books" folder) were still there. I had to re-register with B and N, and I presume that I will have to redo my email and bookmarks, but that should be easy enough. I was unable to find "Advanced (Davlik)" but even though I didn't do that part, everything seems to work OK now. I did use the 1.3 firmware as patruns recommended, and not the 1.4.1 that Koopakid08 recommended, but I'm hoping that it will automatically update on its own. I will let you know if it doesn't.

TLDR: I followed patruns's instructions and it works now. Thanks again.

Hi. I have the same problem as Nosmo.king. Im trying to update to 1.4.1 but my nook color wont accept the update. Also if I take out the sd card to use the original nook system, sometimes it will show a black screen with an android and a yellow triangle and wont let me use original nook color. Basically I have to use the sd card boot most of the time. I tried to do what patruns suggested to restore it to stock, but the links are not available anymore. Any suggestions?
