Since the marshmallow update on my tab S2, all of my documents in Word are now read only and I can't update any of them. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when my Samsung phone was updated. the same thing happened so that I couldn't update my files on my storage card. Anyone else have this problem? Anybody have any suggestions 4 ways to change the documents so that they will be able to be amended?

I have the exact same problem. Tried the suggestions above with no luck.

For now the only "fix" is to re-save the document with Save as, but in a different folder or with a different name, a simple overwrite wont do it. The Save as trick is only temporary though, as soon I save the document it will revert to save only mode next time I open it, so more than a fix it's just a temporary workaround.

I work with files that I update constantly and it's driving me insane, any solution would be a life saver.

Just to point out the same thing happens with Excel, I dont use any other office app but Im guessing it's a general office issue. Please help.

What error message are you getting when you tried to save? Are you talking about Word & Excel file on your SD card or in general?

Welcome to Android Central! It's worth letting Microsoft know about the problem: offandro@microsoft.com

I'll try that, thank you.

As to the other questions. This happens on normal storage, havent tried SD.
There is no error message for me, when I open any document a bar shows uo below the app function buttons that states:
"Read only - you cant save changes to this file" with the option to "save a copy" or "dismiss"

Does anybody have other ideas how to fix this?
The office android support never got back to me and Im still having the issue.

I just saw this. I tried it on my S2 and have the same problem. It isn't something I've ever needed so I wasn't aware of it. I will post here if I can solve it. Just wanted you to know you're not alone in this.
