Problems with Note 5 native email

I'm pairing my S2 with a Note 5 using the native email app. I have 2 accounts set up and when I first set up the watch my S2 had no problem pulling the emails from both accounts, since then nothing.. The same emails from that initial sync are listed but no other emails have been pushed to the S2 since.

I don't use push notifications for email because I get alot of emails. Can that be the problem? I would think that the 3 hour sync that's configured for my email app would push to the S2 at the same time... Anyone else having email issues?

Turns out notifications have to be on.. I turned them on and now I do get emails in my mail app. I wish there was a way to refresh email without push notifications... Oh well
