well i had unrooted my phone not even 2 or 3 days ago and im using the z4 mod for a temporary root and then i try to go to recovey for a back up and it wont let i get black screen with phone and a little triangle can anyone help me out please and thanks

You CANT flash a recovery or roms or anything from recovery if your temp rooted.

Go full root.

i did a temp root and did it then i did a full root and did same thing is there another way or is my phone messed up

He isnt even close to being soft bricked.

While your in the screen with the red-triangle, hit the volume up + power and reboot.

Battery pull works just as well.

Agree, there's no issue here because that's the expected behavior if you try to go into recovery but you're not rooted.

Root, Recovery partitions, and S-OFF are all mutually exclusive things... Just because you have Temp Root, doesn't mean the other two things will work. The full "Root" process will take care of all three (not just rooting the OS).

Just for clarity: I don't think "mutually exclusive" is what you meant.

Root, recovery partitions and S-OFF are independent - having one doesn't imply that you have the others. To flash ROMs you need to have all three.

Mutually exclusive means that if you have any one, you CAN'T have the other two. Which clearly isn't the case.

It seems at that moment, I must have been thinking they're not mutually "inclusive". Meaning, that having one (rooted OS) does not imply that a Recovery, and S-OFF is a given.

But you described it much better than I did.

no but i was just trying to turn my phone on and that screen would come up and i would take the battery out for atleast 3 more times it would keep doing that until i just did the volume down and power did a clear data and cache and it worked

z4root won't do a full Evo root.

s-off turns the security toggle in the phones hboot to OFF, so you can flash files to the phone's partition that don't have an HTC signature.

oh ok thanks btw
how come when i unrooted my phone the s-off was still on how do i make it back to normal

alright thanks ima re root it with unrevoked then unroot it with the link you posted to see if it worked once again thanks

^ Why would you root, just to test and see if the unrooting works? It works, otherwise there would be a a big deal made about it until it was fixed.

when i meant if it worked to see if i did it right and i was not rooting it to test it out i was rooting so i can use the wireless theather and im going to unroot it later not right after

i tried it through the computer and it keept on saying connection error but i went into reboot or bootloader and it now said s on but my phone is still rooted

If all you want is tether, just use z4root.

I would not recommend rooting and unrooting constantly. What benefit do you get from that? If you're going to root, i suggest you take the opportunity to learn about what you are doing, and more about your phone and the android os. Hopefully, that would be fun and engaging. Flashing new software, tweaking behavior, using mods and software available with superuser priveleges makes having SU / root fun.

If the prospect of keeping your phone rooted is not fun, and the idea of using the software given to you by Sprint/HTC makes you comfortable, then dont root. Use z4root for things that require su occassionally.

My suggestion is pick one route and committ fully.
