ProIssue connecting USB to Droid Turbo 2

Having trouble connecting my PC to my Droid Turbo 2:
1) every time I connect, it sees the device, but I have to change it from MTP to charge, then back to MTP to see any disk
2) when I do this little trick, it only sees the SD card, not the internal storage
Running Android 7.0 system version 25.11.10.kinze_verizon.verizon.en.US (FWIW)

Like not to play this little game every time I connect (keep it in MTP).

I think the 2nd part is because I'm running adoptable storage, so it may not be an issue, but frustrated with the first issue - any help would be appreciated!

If you adopted storage, the SD card *is* internal storage. I'm not sure why you have to play the MTP shuffle to connect, but only using an SD card as portable storage would show both internal and SD card external discretely.
