Project Fi

I have no cell coverage inside my house. But that's totally irrelevant with Fi. The first thing Fi does is to look for WiFi. When WiFi coverage is available, all cellular activity is done through WiFi. My home WiFi is through Comcast.

Let me check right now, this minute, and tell you what SpeedTest on my Pixel 2 XL tells me:

Ping 10ms
Download 179 Mbps
Upload 12.5 Mbps

And my Fi phone coverage works perfectly through WiFi!

Nice when WiFi is up. I use cellular in my house and WiFi as a backup (if need be - so far never needed). I just prefer cellular versus relying on WiFi since I am in a hurricane zone so WiFi may not be there.

We are moving to the a slightly country area just outside of Ann Arbor. Barely can get a call out while driving around or outside the house. Forget about data. Looks like I'll need to go back to Verizon which sucks because I love my ~$25 per month bills.

I live in the Atlanta area where WiFi reliability is excellent. Comcast XFinity WiFi literally blankets the entire Atlanta area. My home WiFi is faster and more reliable than any cellular signal I could get.

Google Fi defaulting to WiFi first is really nice when I'm in the interior area of an office building or in the center of a restaurant where a cellular signal can be problematic but WiFi is reliable.

I just don't use WiFi around town. Only LTE since I don't trust public WiFi. I could VPN and all that but no real reason to.

My Verizon bill was $31.70 for my line this month. Hard to complain for unlimited talk, txt, data + 15 GB of hotspot for that price to be honest.

Wow! Wherever you are Verizon is significantly cheaper than here in Atlanta! Before I went with Google Fi, I talked to Verizon Atlanta and their unlimited plan for my wife and myself was over 4 times the amount you're paying! I'm going to check with Verizon again!

Nothing has changed for Verizon here in Atlanta.
For my wife and myself...
$130 Verizon
$35 Google Fi

I split with people. We have 9 lines and 3 apple watches. Family/friends. We each pay our own.

OK. I've had Fi for 9 months and love it.
Verizon would cost me an additional $1,140 a year for no reason. I don't think so! That buys my Pixel 3 XL 128!

And that's fine I never told you to swap haha :P. I simply commented on how I'd rather rely on cellular since the past few hurricanes cellular was fine but home internet not so much. Just giving another perspective since not all want to rely on wifi for their cell service.

And that's what the forums are all about. Sharing viewpoints and solving problems. That's why I like it here and enjoy the exchanges!

I have been on Project Fi for almost a year now and have not had a bill over $30 for the month.

Unfortunately, we are moving a bit farther out of the city and off the highway so at and around my new house mobile data and sometimes phone are very weak and spotty. When it does lock onto a carrier it is normally T-Mobile.

The rest of the family is on Verizon and they are not having an issue.

Unfortunately, I may need to switch. First I will get wifi up and running at the new house and see if Project Fi is workable.

My current home has Comcast WiFi. Super fast speeds. However on occasion I get a person saying they can't hear me, so I turn wifi off during the cal and they can hear me perfectly.

WiFi calling is nice, but not always as reliable as regular cell. I think it is better as a backup than primary for calling.

It certainly has everything to do with location. My home is close to lake level and I'm surrounded by hills. The only way I can get a cell signal is to leave home and drive to the top of a surrounding hill. :) So inside my home the only way I can use my phone is with WiFi. I'm not having any problems with WiFi call fidelity with Fi. I'm on Comcast and my WiFi is a consistent 180 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up.

Not for seniors.. Hidden costs. No customer service that speaks english. impossible to get help. Lots of complaints thru fcc and ftc. Buyer Beware... Get everything in writting & bring your own phone. We have had it going on two months coverage has been good up to this point.
we got our second bill and they added couple of hundreds dollars to our bill for account cost.
they took it out of our account, auto pay, will not put it back or no one that can talk to us,"english"
will not give us legal dept address or number.. something good turned into something bad.shame

Ouch!
My wife and I are definitely senior citizens and this month is our one year anniversary with Fi.
Our experience has been very different from yours.

Help has always been readily available by both texting and voice. Everyone I've ever talked with has spoken excellent English and has been able to answer any questions I've had.

I've not had any "hidden costs" as all additional costs and fees are minimal, clearly stated and standard throughout the industry. Kate and I went from paying $140 per month with our previous company to an average of $45 per month, including data and fees, with Fi.

Our cell phone coverage has been excellent. WiFi coverage throughout our area has been excellent. We love Fi.

Was thinking of checking them out but kinda changing my mind now. Lots of bad experiences does not bode well.

Curious about this. Was there any detail given as to why? I haven't had any unexpected costs in my 30 months of service with the provider.

Granted - I DID bring my own phone as I had a Nexus 6P prior to signing up...

My husband and I have had Project Fi for two years. We've yet to have a bill that exceeds $45, including taxes and fees. We have had excellent coverage, including in the Caribbean islands we visited on a cruise.

Since this is your first post, S Will, welcome to Android Central Forums. Could you tell us what this "couple of hundreds dollars" added to your bill for account cost was for? Your bill itemizes all costs and tells you exactly what each cost is for.
