Project Fi

Does everybody here use insecure messaging?
Nobody ever heard of Signal or Wickr?
What makes those applications/services better than something like WhatsApp?
It's just one more application that everyone has to have at both ends and unless there's some spectacular reason that those are more secure or have more features that I really need I don't see any point in changing.
Edit: and to top it off, I don't think anyone is spying on my current SMS/MMS - if they are I hope they enjoy the conversations about food, pickleball and pictures of cats.

If anyone is spying on my SMS/MMS they're probably pretty darned bored.

I am seriously thinking about Fi, but I know of one absolute dead spot for T-Mobile, and I have no way of really knowing (coverage maps to the contrary) if Sprint covers it. US Cellular is not in CT as far as I know, so it is either Sprint or a dead spot.

You may have coverage on US Cellular.

Courtesy of US Cellular, here's their coverage map: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...-map%2Fcoverage-indicator.html&token=VDs8Qvei

Unless you're in a rural area, looks like you've got good coverage in most of CT.

I may be wrong but I think USCC uses similar network technology to what Verizon uses, so Verizon may be a roaming partner for USCC and providing coverage in CT.

Okay, Thanks

In a place where neither T-Mobile nor Sprint has any signal, will Fi jump to a roaming partner, or will you be holding a phone that won't make or receive calls? (assuming it is Verizon)

Above is my referral code if you want to join FI. Thank you to Bill for using it, he and I will be getting a $20 credit on our FI service. Any and all who are thinking of signing up please help yourself to the referral code.

early fi user who jumped ship to use a note 8, but just finished up my first 24 hours back on fi with my new pixel 2 and loved it!

Unfortunately my wife's office has marble walls and her wifi access is non-existent. So she ends up using about 3 GBs or so a month. So far this month I am at .33 GB, so $3.30 on top of base cost. Like I said the data is there if I need it, and I know that it won't be outrageous if I do use it, but since I have wifi where I spend 95% of my time, this plan can't be beat.

I started service yesterday after getting pixel 2 XL. Liking so far. Headed to Tokyo tomorrow so looking forward to data and calls without having to change anything.

If anyone wants a referral, please use FFM82M

Mine was $25.44 this month. That's ridiculously cheap. Granted, I'm always on WiFi at work and home and I don't touch my phone in the car.

January's bill was $0.18 :p

I now have Fi and I like it. I had Straight Talk before and I was happy with that. I travel a good bit and thought it would be nice not to have to chase down sim cards. I haven't traveled with Fi yet, but I am looking forward to it. I live south of Houston TX and haven't really noticed any difference between Fi and Straight Talk. It looks like the monthly costs will be cheaper than Straight Talk, if I don't go crazy with the data.

My bill was close to $10 cheaper this month. I think it is because we no longer pay $10 data up front at the beginning of the month. We will pay for the data that we use when we get the bill. Things should be back to normal next month.

Had Fi since November 2017, using Moto X4. Found Fi to be very handy when traveling to rural areas. Had to make an emergency trip to the UK a couple of weeks ago, and in minutes of arriving at the airport terminal, Fi had automatically connected to Three UK, and I had near perfect 4G speeds for the duration of my trip. Love the app, and customer service have always been great, even crediting me $20 for when my sim card stopped working for 2 days. Cannot recommend Fi enough!

Why do people like Google fi? Its only worth it if you use very little data. There are a few MVNO's that offer cheaper plans but use AT&T and Verizon towers. I'm currently on a prepaid plan that gives 1000 min and text and 1 GB of data for $14 and I have no worries about reception.

Why? Because it works for me. My bill rarely goes over $25 or so, even when I've traveled. I've rarely had a coverage issue, and I can use WiFi calling when I'm home so coverage there isn't super important.

As you said -- low data users love it. Cheap / easy data. For those that use little data + travel it is even better due to the roaming.
