Proper ROM Flashing Technique

ok guys, so I was reading on XDA about people having crappy battery life on EB01, etc etc and one reason that came up was that people are not flashing their roms properly. so my question is, what is the proper flashing technique or steps?

the first issue I heard was, you're supposed to only flash when you've fully charged your battery... I've never done this and have never had battery life issues until I flashed froyo (tho less of an issue with EB01), but I've been playing WWF (words with friends) a hell of a lot now so I don't know how well my battery is really doing.

normally I just wipe data, cache and dalvik cache and then flash the rom and/or kernel.

so when I flash a rom, what do I need to make sure I do to ensure that I am properly flashing it?

Have you tried wiping your battery stats? I remember having better battery life on DL30 and going to EB01 platform the phone was reading the battery differently. So I would try this out to see if your battery life is better.

yes, I have wiped battery stats. this thread isn't necessarily about battery life, but more of what we should know and do when flashing roms.

To avoid complications after flashing such as force closes it is recommend to to wipe data and cache more than once to start with a fresh system. If you are just upgrading a version number of a ROM (i.e. Super clean 2.3 to 2.4) you can get away with just wiping cache.

Most people suggest flashing on a full charge so the new ROM can correctly output battery percentage. If you don't do it on a full charge you can wipe batt stats after the fact to achieve the same results. It's also important to have sufficient juice when flashing (especially voodoo) so your phone doesn't die in the middle of the process.that should go without saying, but you never know :)

ok, so here's a question, do you wipe before or after you flash your new rom and such? I just came across this when I was flashing the VA Green theme. I normally wipe cache and dalvik cache BEFORE I flash a new rom and theme. Apparently, I was supposed to do this AFTER the flash... not sure why that would make a difference.

thanks for the responses, Kevin. I figured as much, but sometimes people post conflicting information and my own complications on my phone cause me to doubt my own steps!
