Ok so my friend has a Bolt and during the outage she was stuck on 1X while my Droid X never lost 3G at all. I am told the Bolt uses a "different" 3G than other Verizon phones.

My question is..... since we dont have 4G here, can I switch back to the "old" 3G network during cases of outages that just happened yesterday?

Thanks!!

Yeah, there are quite a few threads about switching to Rev.A because of the outage yesterday.

I guess what I meant to ask is why doesnt the Bolt go to a 3G connection when the 4G is out? Why did her phone go to and stay on 1X? Why doesnt it drop down to 3G?

eHRPD allows the phone to switch from 3G to LTE faster if you go from a 3G area to an LTE area or from an LTE area to a 3G area.

That's the main reason for the different "network".

And as FrankXS stated in another thread, hopefully this LTE outage will cause HTC and Verizon to put in a Rev.A/eHRPD toggle or in a more laymen term a 3G/LTE toggle in the OTA update.

If this happens again you can easily switch to the regular EVDO 3G network manually like a lot of others did until the 4G/SVDO-3G is back up.
