Proximity sensor whoes

Ok so I'm talking to my friends on my droid, but for whatever reason it randomly thinks the phone isn't by my face after the slightest movements. Contantly making beeping noises and/or hanging up on my friends. Is there a way I can lock the phone while talking or something??
